Acts 1:6-8 So when the apostles were with Jesus they kept asking him, Lord, has the time come for you to free Israel and restore our kingdom? He replied, “The Father alone has the authority to set those dates and times, and they are not for you to know. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere - in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
If my timing was law, and everything happened on my command. The world would be incapable of sustaining life. Because some days I wish for summer, but all I get is winter. And other days I wish for winter, but all I get is the scorching sun. Imagine a world in which the seasons would change depending on our mood. The natural world would collapse, unable to keep up with the constant demand for something new. It takes a supernatural mind to foresee, that withholding our wishes for later helps us develop the virtue that loves time. Patience.
The disciples wanted freedom for their country, but Jesus wanted them to be patient and wait for the Spirit that would free their souls and equip them to bring salvation, not only to their nation but to the whole world.
