Beefsteak Tomato Tasting and Ideas for Cooking our Produce
Manage episode 433394320 series 3550484
In this episode of our podcast, Sherva and Karen did a beefsteak tomato tasting. They tasted three tomatoes, Vasario, Yellow Bull Heart, and Gigantica Farina, and found some discrepancies in taste. Tomatoes can taste so different depending on when you pick them and how ripe they are. The perfect timing makes a huge difference in taste and texture.
Vesario - A dark, smokey black/red beefsteak. It did not disappoint. It had the typical dark smokey taste, a little sweet and a nice balance. It was just over 1 pound.
Yellow Bull Heart - Yellow Bull Heart was better than expected. Usually, yellows are a little on the boring side, but this one had some flavor. It would be perfect for a dish where you don't want to overpower the ingredients with a strong tomato. It weighed a healthy 1.4 pounds.
Gigantica Farina - Gigantica Farina was true to its name, it was a giant weighing in at 1.88 pounds. It was juicy and had a full tomato taste. Perfect for a ham sandwich!
