You'll often hear it said there are no big deer in Florida and for the most part, comparatively speaking the majority of people aren't wrong. Deer in the South and especially in Florida definitely don't get the body mass you see on deer in the Northern states and the major factors are climate and resources. Take a short drive North and get into some more rural agriculture rich areas of Alabama, Georgia and Mississippi and you’ll start to see the size of deer gradually increase. Due to less nutrient dense soils, habitat loss due to over development resources are spread thin in the woods so it's not crazy for a hunter here in Florida to be astoundingly proud of a 120” Florida Giant. But every now and then one slips through cracks and turns into a monster. That's the case we're talking about this week. This week we are joined by James Stovall, the Current State record holder for the biggest whitetail ever killed in the state of Florida in recorded history. This 206” beast was taken in September of 1999 in Green Swamp West, the year it opened for a special opportunity hunt. It's quite a story and we know you'll enjoy it.
