Madam Ambassador Gutmann assumed her position as the U.S. Ambassador to Germany in early 2022. Prior to her appointment, she was the University of Pennsylvania’s longest serving President from 2004-2022. In 2018, she was named by Fortune magazine as one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders”. Being of Jewish descent and having a family history of flight from Nazi Germany, Madam Ambassador Gutmann was eager to retrace the country of origin of her late father.
