(English version below) Hands off Gretel sind zwar hierzulande noch weitgehend unbekannt, in ihrer Heimat England gehören sie aber zu den Punkrock-Durchstartern überhaupt. Diesen Status haben sie sich über die letzten Jahre mit ihren energetischen Shows in Clubs und auf diversen großen Festivals hart erarbeitet. Im Oktober 2019 war die Band auch in Deutschland wieder auf Tour und machte dabei Station im Hamburger Molotow wo Mischa und Alex von Radio Brennt! sie interviewen dürften. Zentrales Thema in den Texten von Sängerin und Songwriterin Lauren Tate ist es dabei das Dasein als Außenseiter, das sie selbst zu Schulzeiten fristete. Hands off Gretel werden von der britischen Musikpresse zurecht über den grünen Klee gelobt und mit Bands wie den frühen No Doubt und L7 verglichen, das aktuelle Album „I Want The World“ wurde geradezu euphorisch besprochen. Im Vergleich zum Vorgänger „Kill the Beauty Queen“ ist es poppiger, ohne aber seine rotzige Punk-Attitüde verloren zu haben. Im Podcast spricht die Band über ihre eigene Geschichte, ihre Ziele und darüber was sie an der Musikindustrie und manchmal auch am Verhalten des männlichen Publikums stört. English Version Hands off Gretel are one of the must-listen-to punkrock newcomers of Englands music scene. They have worked hard on this status playing a lot of gigs during the last years from small clubs to the big festival stages. In October 2019 they came to Germany to play some club gigs, one of them in the Molotow Club in Hamburg where the Radio Brennt! hosts Mischa and Alex met the band for an interview. One of the bands main topics is being an outcast and dealing with that situation. Britains music press could not praise this band enough especially for their latest album “I Want The World” comparing them to bands like early No Doubt and L7. Although the latest album aims a little more into mainstream rock sound the band has not lost any of their raw punk energy. In our podcast the band talks about the development of their sound, their goals, what goes wrong with the music industry these days and how some men are misbehaving at their shows. About Radio Brennt! Radio Brennt! is a non-commercial radio show that airs on Hamburgs public access radio station Tide.radio since 2012 as a hobby project of two music enthusiasts. Starting as an hour of playing their favourite music, the show has evolved to a mix of interview and music show. Today the three hosts Stefan, Mischa and Alex invite a local band that is usually largely unknown to their studio at Tide every month and ask them to bring their favourite music and of course some of their own songs. On these two CDs You will find a song of every of their guests so far (or two of them if the artists already visited them twice). Lately they are expanding their show by recording interviews with bands that play shows in Hamburg, that air exclusively on their podcast where you will also find all of the regular shows.
