Part 1
Text: Acts 21:17–23:22
Topic(s): Anger, Sin, Godliness, Justice, Righteousness, Self-Control, Christian Living
Big Idea of the Message: Christians are called to “put off” earthly behaviors like anger and rage, but righteous indignation toward injustice and sin has a purpose and place within the body of Christ.
Application Point: Anger is an emotional response that God himself experiences. How we respond to that emotion will either align us with God’s desire for restoration and repentance or lead us into sin.
Discussion Questions:
What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
Were you surprised to learn that we can experience two different forms of anger?
Why do you think it’s important for us to learn to control our anger, even when the anger is justified?
Part 2
Text: Philippians 1:24–30
Topic(s): Emotional Health, Fruit of the Spirit, Unity in Christ, Ministry, God’s Kingdom
Big Idea of the Message: Our emotions are a gift and a reflection of our creator. Just as our mind was given to us as a tool to reason, our emotions are meant to be tools of discernment that empower us to be ambassadors of God’s kingdom.
Application Point: Our emotions are designed to draw us into a deeper relationship with our creator and his creation, and to bring him glory.
Discussion Questions:
What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?
Do you agree with the statement that “God gave us our emotions as a gift and as a tool” to use for his glory? Why or why not?
How can our emotions affect our thoughts, and vice versa?
Does it encourage you to know that God experiences many of the same emotions that you do? Why or why not?
What new insight have you’ve gained about your emotional well-being this week? How can you use this newfound insight to grow in emotional strength and take your thoughts captive?
How can we pray for you?
