Episode 25: The Boy Code

Florian & Sven sind dieses Mal unter sich und besprechen den "Boy Code" des Autors und Leiters des Center for Men and Young Men & Assistant Clinical Professor (Psychologie) am Department of Psychiatry der Harvard Medical School.

In seinen Studien fand Pollack einige grundlegende ungeschriebene Gesetze, denen sich Jungen beim Heranwachsen meist unbewusst unterwerfen, um zu Männern zu werden.

Die Gesetze lauten:

1. Stand on your own two feet. Always be independent.
2. Separate from mum and all things female as quickly as possible, or you’ll be a ‘sissy’ or ‘wuss’.
3. Never show any feelings (except anger). Fear and vulnerability are for wimps and you will be teased or shamed for revealing them. Keep the ‘code of silence’.
4. Stay on top and in the limelight.
5. ‘Give ‘em hell’ through macho behaviour, cruelty, bravado and banter.
6. Sex is conquest.
7. Bullying and teasing are just ‘normal’ boy talk.
8. Never give in or really listen.
9. Don’t show your fear of violence.
10. Don’t ‘grass’ or let anyone else know when another boy does something harmful.
