Throat clearing

Symptom: Throat clearing can become a habit. The slightest tickle and you may cough, but this irritates the vocal folds even more and makes them more raw and sensitive which then exacerbates the problem.

Prescription:

· Swap a cough for a hard swallow, preferably with a sip of water and you have a double-whammy: you have eased the irritation without causing more trauma, and hydrates yourself at the same time. Episode 761 covers this.

· If the problem persists, see a health professional in case there is an underlying issue that demands investigation and explanation.
