Send us a text The boys have returned from their festive adventures! Trev enjoyed sunny days on the Southampton docks, while Dave endured the cold on the Algarve—or maybe it was the other way around. Either way, they’re back, and this episode is packed with the usual mix of humour and insight. First up, there’s an emotional chat about their new mugs, proudly adorned with both the Podcast logo, and The Guild’s logo to highlight the strong partnership between the two. The conversation then turns to a sobering topic: the troubling rise of business failures throughout 2024. Trev and Dave express their concern about this ongoing trend and their frustration at the lack of action to being taken by those that run the run country et al. They share their personal insights and some practical, common-sense solutions for tackling the issue, adding some unusual depth to the discussion. Of course, it wouldn’t be an episode without a dose of light-hearted chaos. This time, Trev discovers a mysterious tub of cheese in the boot of Dave’s car, leading to some hilarity that only these two could deliver. In an exciting new twist, the boys announce a monthly competition and, in addition, they’re calling on Guild members to submit case studies, with the chance to win... well, some very cheap looking mugs. As always, we encourage you to listen, share, and keep the comments coming. Who knows? If luck isn’t on your side, you might just end up with a mug! Send us a text In this final episode of the year, David and Trevor bring some much-needed festive cheer to the often serious and challenging world of business finance. Their efforts are made even merrier by the lively presence of guest Martin Lewis, founder of 'EVESS' (Graduation Attire Ltd). At just 36 years old, Martin shares his remarkable entrepreneurial journey, which began on the very day he graduated—12 July 2013. He reveals how a chance meeting with business finance professional and Guild member Duncan Payne (aka Martin Kemp) from 'Adamantean' became a turning point. Thanks to Duncan’s introduction of a tailored asset finance and trade finance facility, Martin’s business found the support it needed to thrive. This inspiring conversation is packed with valuable insights for business owners, but it’s not all serious! Martin’s sense of humour matches the hosts’ clownish charm, leading to hilarity as they dream up a band called “Rock & Robe,” with Duncan as the lead singer. If you’re looking for the perfect blend of laughs, light-hearted banter, and practical business wisdom, this episode is a must-listen! Send us a text After a sun-soaked break enjoying beers and beaches in the Algarve, Dave and Trev are back! Riding on the success of Series 1, the duo couldn’t resist returning for another round of lighthearted chatter. This time, they’ve teamed up with The Guild of Business Finance Professionals . Since the Guild’s launch in June, the timing feels spot on, with a natural synergy bringing these two worlds together. While Dave’s wedding bells are still echoing in Trevor’s ears—along with the groans of other fellow “sufferers”—this new collaboration aims to strike a chord with business owners in need of financial expertise. So, kick back, toss a log on the fire, and see if you can stay awake for the full 21 minutes and 35 seconds! Send us a text After nine previous episodes, Dave and Trev wrap up Series 1 with a recap of all that’s unfolded on the show over the past six months. The duo reflect on memorable guests, including Jo Hughes, the business owner from Episode 3, and Andrew Frost, the lender from Episode 9. Between these, there’s been a mix of other guests, some awful humour, and a quiz effort that didn’t quite capture the audience’s enthusiasm. Since the founding of The Guild of Business Finance Professionals on June 6th, it seems fitting that future shows will align with the Guild to strengthen it's growing membership and communication channels. As for Series 2, plans remain hidden under a big red blanket and still waiting for a clear direction. In the meantime, Dave and Trev will continue their playful mission to conquer South America, ponder a world tour, consider selling out to Netflix, or perhaps go off gallivanting with their showbiz pals, Mr Benedict Cumberbatch and Ms Gillian Anderson. For more market updates and buffoonery, stay tuned for Series 2—coming to all nearby mobile phones in November/sometime soon! Send us a text On this penultimate episode of Series 1, David and Trevor enjoy a lively conversation with Andrew Frost from Genesis Asset Finance, a family business with nearly 25 years of experience lending to small businesses. Andrew, now leading the company alongside his brother Edward, offers his candid perspective on the current marketplace, emphasising that lending is an "art," not a "science." He speaks passionately about the importance of personal connections in business, such as meeting customers face-to-face and working closely with intermediaries. This approach highlights the company's traditional values in a rapidly evolving industry. As usual, the podcast gets lost down a pathway of both serious and light-hearted topics. In a fun twist, this episode marks the milestone of the podcast being downloaded on every continent, after finally reaching Bolivia—unlocking the long-closed and bolted South American "door." On the lighter/darker side, "toilet chat" makes its debut, and there's a quirky introduction to the Royal Family of Bhutan, all in line with the usual mix of serious insights and awful banter that has become a flaw and frailty of the show. This episode also welcomes the podcast’s first external sponsor, Finance Technology Services Limited, and introduces a new website that gathers all the key people and moments from the podcast's journey so far. Send us a text As with all of the 'Little Fillers' to date, David & Trevor have tried to keep the content short, sweet and engaging. Despite their best efforts, the chat bounces from one extreme to another and many are forced to switch off and never to return! Following the last episode, the conversation around mental health was spoken about with Gordon Larson and the feedback received was interesting and hence it was felt necessary to raise this important subject again. Trevor decides to become a Quiz Master...and fails, leaving David bemused by the unfair scoring that was implemented...and David surprises Trevor with an alleged fan message sent to him by Gillian Anderson, yes, the American actress best known for her X-Files and Sex Education. Finally, Trevor leaks out a personal secret that David has been keeping under wraps and now there is an unwanted and unnecessary competition between Oasis and David to see who can sell the most tickets. Currently, Oasis are ahead by a supernova and more. Enjoy Support the show Please subscribe and follow us on LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter/X. Just search for 'Business Finance Matters'. Send us a text In this episode, Dave and Trev get carried away with the recent Olympic action but, eventually steer themselves down the professional running track. The guests on this show are two business finance professionals and founder Guild members. First, the boys chat to Ian Woodley who is the owner of Finance Kitchen. Ian's focus is to provide the much needed business finance support for the UK's restaurant market that continues to face a myriad of challenges following the pandemic and the current cost of living. The 2nd guest is Gordon Larson who is a director at Asset and General Finance. Gordon talks passionately and our industry sector and speaks about a younger generation of business finance professionals that is needed to ensure the future remains bright. Send us a text This weeks little filler episode includes views following the recent introduction to a new Government and some impressive data about past Olympic games. Sadly, the boys have still not had any downloads in South America, but do they really care? David give us all clear understanding on how Benedict Cumberbatch helps him to warm before recording the podcast and Trevor continues to bleat on about how they should both set-up a splinter Podcast that follows in the same genre as the great and late Dudley Moore and Peter Cook. In the serious and important stuff, the boys talk some more about The Guild of Business Finance Professionals and warm us up for the two guests that will be appearing on the next Episode Support the show Please subscribe and follow us on LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter/X. Send us a text David and Trevor welcome Stephen Bassett onto this show to talk about his role as Chairperson for The Guild that was founded and officially launched in London on June 6th 2024. Stephen talks openly about why The Guild has been formed and what he hopes The Guild will become. The conversation opens up into how the organisation will provide an important signpost for those business owners that are looking for help in their conquest to gain access to the best-fit finance. In addition, Trevor and Stephen explain how The Guild we work along alongside the existing industry trade bodies including the NACFB, FIBA and the FLA As always, this episode is peppered with a mix of various attempts to be comedic, witty, sarcastic and unique. Send us a text On this show, the boy's are tickled pink to bring you their 2nd 'little filler'...and especially as they have some exciting news to deliver. Dave and Trev have also been receiving positive feedback from the business finance marketplace including a number of case studies that clearly demonstrates the many advantages for business owners that are seeking the best-fit access to a very crowded lending landscape. The message continues to remain clear and support the fact that the vast majority of business owners should not engage with directly with any lender without seeking professional guidance beforehand. In addition, avoid engaging with many of the online or social media adverts that may be offering quick access to cheap finance. Send us a text On this show we welcome Jo Hughes. Jo is a director and co-owner of MaxWifi (UK) Limited. Jo talks openly about her career path and explains how she and her husband Richard, were able to cope with the many financial challenges that they had to endure...including a conversation with their bank manager that could have lead to their demise had they taken his advice. The good news is that Jo was able to engage with a business finance professional shortly after and ignored the advice of the bank manager. Today her business is thriving once more. Most importantly, Jo gives an honest and frank view on the importance of why every small business should be able to gain quick access to a nearby business finance professional. Dave and Trev hope that this will be the first of many first hand business owner experiences that will resonate and garner support from all those that identify and support the cause behind this Podcast series. Send us a text Following on from the 1st Episode that went live on 19th April, this next Episode will cover off the feedback and responses received so far and continues to push home the principle cause ie to ensure that the UK's business owners are given the signposting that will give them the access to the best-fit finance. Dave & Trev, of course, add their own twist of humour and banter that most of the listeners appear to enjoy, however, some have already switched off and moved quickly into a dark room to reflect.
