This week we are joined by friend of the show Jay Ledbetter (Extra Film podcast), who’s known Ryan longer but is better friends with Mitchell, we swear. Jay rides hard for all things Finch as we center the episode on Tom Hanks’ reteaming with his Forrest Gump director Robert Zemeckis for 2000’s Cast Away (not Castaway). We discuss the film’s fascinating, daring production schedule, how Hanks was the one who came up with this idea and kicked it into high gear, and how it may just be the most committed and passionate performance of his career (and maybe his best). We also for some reason spend a lot of time talking about the awards prospects of the Chris Pine thriller The Contractor.
