Send us a text Introduction: Elle Gargano is a Survivor of the biggest mass shooting in America History. The Hwy 91 shooting at Mandalay Bay on the night of October 1, 2017, starting at 10:05 p.m. She was shot in the back of the head and after 3 brain surgeries Elle has been dedicating her life to healing, not just surviving the horror but thriving after. In 2020 she started an inspirational clothing brand called “Brave the Label” for mental health advocacy and awareness. She has decided to become wise and not remain wounded. Then in 2023, she escaped a brutal nine-year abusive relationship. After suffering in silence for so long, her goal is to inspire those who heal after trauma to find purpose and love for life again. Send us a text In this episode we interview Mike G., and his story starts with him being raised by two addicted parents. His father being a career criminal in and out of prison. His Mother does her best to help hold down a drug-filled household that eventually leading her to prostitution. Mike’s Father and Mother made a suicide pact and his father dies, but his mother lived. The family fell apart after that incident and then his mother became a Jehovah’s Witness. Not being able to assimilate himself to school or become a gangster that his father wanted him to be, Mike joined the army instead of going to jail for a crime he committed. Mike spends the best years of his life in the military traveling the world and eventually his addiction catches up to him and they discharge him from the Army. He returns home and picks up where he left off. Mike spends the next 21 years with long stents of sobriety with relapses along the way. He keeps coming back and embodying the cliché. Send us a text Cliff M. is interviewed about his journey of struggling with Opioid addiction. Cliff was raised in Northern California around the Folsom Prison area. His parents were bikers, but his mother got sober when she had him. His father was very abusive and died when he was 11 years old. Cliff got addicted to Opiods at the beginning of the Opioid Epidemic. He dreamed of owning his own Marijuana dispensary business as a kid and became addicted to prescription pills after an accident. After 6 years he and many people were cut off from the prescription medications, he progressed to Heroin and the needle. One day after he picked up some bad Heroin that had Botulism in it. He overdosed and almost died. He was in the ICU and the hospital for 2 months. After his release he got into treatment and now has over 7 years of sobriety. Send us a text James S. is interviewed and gives an inside look at the LBGTQ community and sobriety. James was raised in an alcoholic addict family that he didn’t want to be a part of from the start. He started using and drinking at age 15 and went from taking a hit of a cigarette to taking acid in one night. From that point on his addiction was ignited and took him on a journey of insanity. James was brutally attacked in a home invasion that left him in a coma for two weeks in the hospital. Once he woke up from the coma all he could think about was using and drinking again. Once Rehabilitated and released from the hospital, his return to his addiction only worsened. Ø "The Step house of Santa Ana has always followed the original beginnings of AA as set forth by Bill W. and DR, Bob. Ø "On December 15th, 1973, the first resident was admitted officially to the Step House. It has now been open for over 50 years, serving the community. Talk about, heritage, legacy, and lineage. Ø “On December 24, 1973, The Step House of Santa Ana, located at 525 N. Grand St., Santa Ana, Ca, was originated as a non-profit cooperation by eleven charter members. Ø “In 1973 when the house was opened it was believed the only other step house in Orange County was the first step House of Orange County, more commonly known as the “Charlie Street-step house”, in Costa Mesa. Ø “On December 7, 1977, the house on Grand Avenue had to be evacuated to make way for a parking lot. At that time 1,134 residents had come through the doors and there was a growing list of alumni who were sharing up to four years of sobriety. · The day the house was Bulldozed many people thought that was the end of the step house. Ø Soon after “The Step House of Santa Ana”, purchased a home at 13472 Gilbert St., Garden Grove Ca. and went right on with the same program. The house was continued as a Detox house until 1986 until local laws caused it to shut down and then became a sober living. · Our records show that from its opening on December 15th, 1973, in Santa Ana to its closing on September 30th, 1986, they had processed a total of 3,539 practicing alcoholics as residents. Send us a text In this episode, we interview Jim Brillion, a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Jim will break down CPTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and many other topics that help the diversity of the clients he helps. Breaking down the process of obtaining a therapist for the substance abuse populations and taking a deep dive into why he became a therapist. Jim’s clients reflect the diversity of our community, all genders, orientations, races, backgrounds, and issues. Jim is an LGBT-affirming therapist that specializes in working with that community. Through an integrative and relational approach, Jim also specializes in working with addictions and compulsivity, trauma, men's issues, anxiety, and depression. Jim is trained in EMDR trauma resolution therapy. Read more about it on his EMDR page. Areas of special focus in the practice are Attachment, Mindfulness, and Trauma. Healing is integration. Jim will work to help you integrate your past with your present, and your mind with your body. His approach blends developing greater self-awareness with knowledge of how the mind and emotions work, to empower you to create change in your life.
