When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Hello, Everyone. I am your podcast host Belinda Payne. Thank you for joining me for ADAAT, where we discuss practical ways to empower you to thrive, A Day At A Time, and one way to do that is to shout aloud, anchors aweigh, hoist your anchor, and launch out into the deep! The first notable thing about this episode is the spelling. Until I prepared for the lesson, I had no idea I was spelling the word aweigh incorrectly. Aweigh means raised just clear of the sea or riverbed. It also means moving higher in position or being above a former position or level. Free. Able to act at will. Not hampered. No longer under confinement or limited movement. There will come a time in all our lives when we sense a spiritual calling saying anchors aweigh. It is time to launch into the deep . We cannot launch into the deep until we hoist our anchor. So wear your seaman attire because we are launching out into the deep on our journey today. Enjoy this episode! This episode will end Season Two of ADAAT, and what a great way to close the season with a word of encouragement to launch into the deep. I hope you have enjoyed each episode. To be fully transparent, the glamour of the original television show, Miami Vice, featuring Don Johnson as Sonny Crockett, and Philip Michael Thomas as Ricardo Tubbs, propelled my interest in becoming an undercover police officer. My initial reasoning may have been somewhat vain, but I was enthralled with being able to arrest individuals for committing crimes while acting as if I was in "the game." Early on in my law enforcement career, I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to live my dream of working undercover for over eleven years and, afterward, expanding my policing resume, which has helped me to accomplish so much more." They establish their target – They do not allow others to create their target goals. #3 They develop a theory – They intentionally and methodically create an internal belief system that cannot be penetrated by negative forces when setting their goals. I don't know about you, but I struggle with listening to people when hungry! But here's the thing - I have learned there are two types of hunger – if we are not careful, we will feed the wrong hunger pangs. Hunger, whether it is physiological or psychological, is an unmet desire. Sometimes we try to satisfy a hunger or desire with things that may not be in our best interest, thinking those things will meet a particular longing.
