GESPONSERT
Hilde Mosse comes from one of the wealthiest families in Berlin and stands to inherit an enormous fortune. But she longs for something more meaningful than the luxurious lifestyle her family provides. So Hilde decides to pursue her dream of becoming a doctor. As the Nazis take power in Germany and the Mosse family is forced to flee, Dr. Hilde Mosse lands in New York having nearly lost everything.. She finds her calling treating the mental health of Black youth – and the symptoms of a racist system. In an opening discussion, WD James and I discuss elements of the Western Tradition that loosely constitute what could be termed "Egalitarian Anti-Modernism": Building upon and expanding on aspects of his ongoing essay series at Winter Oak, and WD's substack, Philosopher's Holler, themes we explore include aspects of Plato's 'Republic', the debate between Realism and Nominalism, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, and even a bit of Shakespeare. Do watch and enjoy! WD James' work can be found both at his Substack, and at Winter Oak, the links to which are here: https://wdjames.substack.com/ https://winteroak.org.uk/…

This conversation opens considering the surprising dearth of imagery around the death of Jesus until the late fourth century, a circumstance which clues one into questions of how, otherwise, is the death of Jesus remembered and understood for early Christianity: this segues into reflections of text, historicity, facticity, myth and imagination. The chat concludes, or, perhaps better, adjourns upon the profound subversiveness of the Gospel's message so far as the ways of the world are concerned. David avers that it is ultimately a worthy goal, whereas I contend it is deeply unwise. Some of David's efforts in this connection can be found at his website, here: https://www.curing-aging.com/…
