×In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following: (1:57 into episode) 1. I struggle with the lie that it’s scary and impossible to assert myself. Growing up in a conservative, legalistic home I adopted the view that good Christian girls obey, submit, yield their needs and ideas and don’t cause any problems. Just go with the flow because Jesus wouldn’t want me to be the cause of conflict. I must be the peacekeeper. What would be your advice/perspective on how Christians are to assert themselves as Christ followers? (20:36 into episode) 2. Probably a dumb question… why do Christian’s call Good Friday, “good”? Because as someone on the outside looking objectively… it seems like it would be a pretty bad day. (23:03 into episode) 3. Can you define what the term “woke” means? And how does it align with the teachings of Jesus? (46:00 into episode) 4.Is Jesus stuck in Heaven now, after the ascension? Or can he come back down to earth freely? In this weeks episode of inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer the following questions: 1. Why did the God of Love command the Hebrews to commit genocide on the people that occupied Israel when the Hebrews arrived to the place God had given Abraham? Were these peoples there before or after Abraham? How can we rationalize the Hebrew’s actions when so many other countries have claimed “holy wars” and then later their actions were seen to be not of God? 2. I mean, really: who IS the brother in the prodigal son story? And what do you think of him? Is he really that bad? Wouldn’t you be upset if they left you working in the field and didn’t even invite you to the party? I mean, he’s been saving that fatted calf, probably for his wedding or something! In this weeks episode of inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer the following long form question: Negative Impact of Modern Western Culture on Biblical Marriage Modern Western cultures often prioritize individualism, personal fulfillment, and egalitarian values, which can conflict with traditional Biblical views of marriage. The emphasis on equality sometimes leads to the reinterpretation or rejection of roles traditionally seen as complementary in a Christian marriage. This cultural shift can create tension and misunderstandings regarding the Biblical model of marriage, where roles are often defined in terms of leadership and submission. 2 Influence on Gender Roles in Marriage The feminist movement has played a significant role in reshaping gender roles within marriage. The Biblical perspective of husbands as "heads" of the household and wives as submissive partners is often challenged, leading to: A) Redefinition of Leadership: Some contemporary Christians interpret leadership as a shared responsibility rather than a unilateral role. This has diluted the traditional concept of the husband's authority and leadership. B) Shift in Responsibilities: With both spouses often working, responsibilities can become more fluid and less traditionally defined, leading to a negotiation of duties that may not align with Biblical teachings. 3 Misunderstanding of Scriptural Terms Key terms such as "obey," "submit," "honor," and "lead" carry profound meanings within the Biblical context. However, modern interpretations often lead to misconceptions: Obey and Submit: These terms can be perceived as oppressive. Biblical submission, however, is described as a mutual act of love and respect, where both partners submit to one another (Ephesians 5:21). Honor and Lead: The call to honor and lead may be misconstrued as dictatorial authority rather than a servant leadership style that reflects Christ's love for the church (Ephesians 5:25). 4 Power Dynamics in the Home The push for gender equality has led to a re-evaluation of power dynamics in marriage: Men Failing to Lead: Some men may struggle with the concept of leadership. This can lead to a sense of inadequacy or confusion regarding their role. Wives Struggling to Submit: Women may find it challenging to allow their husbands to lead, especially if they have developed a strong independent identity or have experienced previous relationships where leadership was abused. 5 Challenges in Letting Go and Trusting Both partners face distinct challenges in navigating these dynamics: Trust Issues: For many women, trusting a husband to lead can be daunting. The fear of relational vulnerability complicates this trust. Fear of Ineffectiveness: Men may fear that stepping into a leadership role could lead to criticism or rejection of their decisions, which can perpetuate a cycle of indecision or avoidance of leadership. Cultural Pressures: Societal narratives often emphasize independence and self-sufficiency, which can create barriers to embracing a Biblical model of marriage that values interdependence and cooperation. 6 Education and Church Influence The diminished presence of the church in public schools and its influence on educational curriculums can have far-reaching implications: Curriculum Changes: As church teachings have receded from public education, secular narratives often dominate discussions on gender and sexuality. Curricula that emphasize gender fluidity, personal choice, and diverse family structures can contrast sharply with traditional Biblical teachings. Altered Narratives: This change can distort views of Biblical truths, especially among younger generations who may be less exposed to church teachings. As a result, children may grow up with values that prioritize individualism and personal autonomy over the communal and sacrificial aspects of Christian marriage. The Questions 1 What advice would you give to couples currently struggling to establish a more Biblical Marriage? For those who recognize the negative impacts of modern influences on marriage and family dynamics, redirecting leadership roles can be a significant struggle. While the concept of gender equality holds value, it often fails to embrace or support the distinct and complementary roles that individuals play within marriage. 2 I can’t help but wonder whether the rising divorce statistics are influenced by our collective rejection of these traditional roles and the subconscious effects of contemporary culture on our marital expectations. What are your thoughts? I believe as children of God, we are equals; however, it is essential to recognize that the genders are not designed to be identical. The differences in our design carry a profound significance that highlights how we complement one another, allowing us to unite as one and support each other in our respective roles. Embracing these unique attributes can enhance our relationships, leading to a more fulfilling and harmonious partnership. In this weeks episode of inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Blake and Kyle discuss the following questions: (2:25 into episode) AER On episode 383 you discuss the omniscience of God and use the idea that Jesus said even he did not know the day or hour that the son of man would return. Do you think there is actually a day that god has picked out or did Jesus not know because it was undecided? I have heard, and maybe it’s somewhere in Paul’s letters, the idea that what we do can speed up the day of Jesus’ return. If what we do can change the day that Jesus returns, is god waiting for a set date or some criteria to be fulfilled? (18:47 into episode) Following last week’s podcast - sometimes when I listen to the podcast I wonder about the North American church. I have never heard anything negative about Pokémon… I only moved to Canada nearly 8 years ago, probably after Pokémon conversations. it makes me wonder about the cultural differences and why in North America so many more things like Pokémon are questioned. (34:07 into episode) I listened to a BEMA podcast about a book called "Fail: Finding Hope and Grace in the Midst of Ministry Failure" by J.R. Briggs, I was wondering if you’d be willing to share a time you thought you failed in ministry and what God’s love did in your soul through that experience Resources: "Devil in the Deep" Podcast by Mike Cosper covering the Satanic Panic Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? 1 Inverted Orthodoxy 384- AER, Is Sin self-defined? Can I watch violent movies? Who did God imprison? 59:25
In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following: 1. AER - Kyle, The Timothy (Paul) quote is that God has NOT given us the spirit of fear… 2. In Romans 14 Paul talks about each person finding their own level of conviction about whether or not they eat meat or drink wine. Saying in verse 14 ‘if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean’. What does this mean? Are there applications for this idea outside of just eating or drinking? Should we be approaching all sin with this kind of thinking? 3. I have a question about crime investigation shows and movies or shows that have violence. I enjoy watching these kinds of movie but wondering if it is bad to find enjoyment in these shows? Like the crime investigation shows. They tend to have drug cases, murder or sexual violence. For these shows are we enjoying the sinfulness that might be part of the show or just the crime fighting and good versus evil portion of the show? 4. “After being made alive, he went and made proclamation to the imprisoned spirits— to those who were disobedient long ago when God waited patiently in the days of Noah while the ark was being built. In it only a few people, eight in all, were saved through water,” 1 Peter 3:19-20 NIV Can you please elaborate on who these imprisoned spirits are? In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following: 1. I’ve heard people praying that they “renounce an evil spirit or mindset”. What are your thoughts on this? Is this a spiritual practice our church disciples our members in? 2. Why do we believe that God is omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient? Are they all based on specific Scripture? Are they all necessary beliefs of God? And (finally) is it possible that God is not one of them? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer and discuss the following questions: (1:34 into episode) 1. This question is in response to episode 381 where Doug talks about praying to the father instead of Christ. When Doug mentions how he used to picture the father as angry and Jesus pleading don’t smite them, I died for them. I related to this so much. I catch myself constantly trying to picture god differently but it’s hard to do that sometimes, to reconcile the god of the Old Testament. I usually just default to Jesus because i picture him as love so much easier. Can you guys describe god how you genuinely see him and do you picture him any differently than Jesus? Do you struggle with the goodness of god vs the goodness of Jesus? (18:50 into episode) 2. I am not sure If you have answered this question before I would like to know if being a homosexual is a sin? Yes or no? (21:43 into episode) 3. Can you explain the rapture? What do you think happens? As a kid I watched left behind at my church and it completely freaked me out. Since then I have chosen not to give it much thought or research of my own because I’m afraid of what I will find. can you shed some hope and light on the rapture? 1 Inverted Orthodoxy 381 - Tithing, Why Circumcision, Kids getting baptized and Images of Jesus in pr 55:01
In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: 1. Being generous is an important aspect of being a Christian, I just listened to pastor Blake share about greed and generosity. My question is, how much should you give and be generous if you are in debt? Should you tithe before paying off debts? What would you recommend to help Get out of debt? 1. In relation to Blake's sermon this weekend on greed and his references to tithing, it made me wonder - if someone is tithing the traditional 10% whether it should be on gross or net income? I would imagine most people would do it on net income, but wouldn't that mean that our "first fruits" are going to the government and not God? Or, does that not matter since that is not money we have any control over and "first fruits" would be more in relation to what we do with the funds we actually receive or control? Not looking to be dogmatic on it, just curious about what you guys think. 2. I just finished reading Galatians with my teenage children and they would like to know why God picked circumcision as the symbol for being set apart as his people in the Old Testament? Do you have any explanations? 3. How would you advise parents to talk to their children about baptism? I was baptized with water when I was 10 and realized much later all of the implications of the action. What would you be looking for in a youth-aged person to show they understand and are ready to be baptized in water? 4. What image is in your mind when you think of Jesus, is it there when you pray ? In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: 475. AER: you were discussing socialism and communism in heaven. What are your thoughts on the verse talking about storing up our treasures in heaven? Matthew 6:19-21 what is this referring to? 476. AER Just finished watching this week’s show and I had to laugh at you guys Reminded me of three old guys sitting around a table at Timmie’s talking about a hockey game that was played 20 years ago. Love and appreciate the show. Keep them coming. 477. AER Singapore, a benevolent dictatorship, is supposedly a “Christian nation “. If the citizens are Christian, then they are bland, entitled, and not exactly on fire for god. I realize that in describing individuals, that would be an unfair stereotype, but I mean it as the characteristic of the nation. 478. AER In your podcast last week you talk about the separation of church and state, the end of Christendom. With the upcoming election in Canada, one party has proposed removing the charitable status for advancing religion. I recognize this may affect all religious organizations, but how do you think this will impact Churches and Christian charities? Should this be a factor Christian’s take into consideration when thinking about who to vote for? What does it mean to be of one flesh? Is it marriage? Is it sex? How can it be interpreted in today’s age? 480. What do you know about the indigenous smudging ceremony? is it contrary to the christian faith? some say it mimics the ritual of incense in the jewish or catholic faith. My children are being offered this opportunity through school, and i am uncomfortable with it from initial thought. I would appreciate your perspective. In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: (1:37 into episode) AER: Communism did not fail when the Berlin Wall fell. That was socialism. Socialism aims to distribute wealth and property equally while communism creates equality by eliminating private wealth and property. Socialist countries have a disgusting number of oligarchs and billionaire politicians. I believe communism can only be achieved in heaven. (4:59 into episode) AERLast week at the end of your discussion about different ideas of hell, you said that there should be space in churches for people to wrestle with these ideas where the bible can be interpreted in different ways and for us to be able to think about these ideas in the context of who we know God to be. I just want to say yes! And thank you for creating a place where we can ask the difficult question, hear your thoughts and ideas and it can challenge our thinking and lead us into a clearer/deeper understanding of who god is and what he says. (6:26 into episode) Referring to the comment of “separating the sheep and the goats referring to nations, I just read the Alexis Navalny book, and it is evident that many Russians do not agree with their leader (Putin) to the point where many have sacrificed their freedom or even life. How will nations be separated in such a way? (14:57 into episode) Given that most movies about Jesus are only about his birth or his death, what story of Jesus would you most like to see made into a movie? And who would you cast? (29:12 into episode) I know here in Canada, this isn’t on the table just yet. But really curious if you could share your opinions on the “anti Christian bias” task forces and laws being pushed in the states. It feels hard to be a Christian in these times, especially when church and state should historically be kept separate. After hearing previous conversations on what will happen when Jesus returns, specifically pertaining to revelation in this podcast. In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer and discuss the following questions: 2:12 into episode AER My question is ,if someone opens up a subject or opinion of a sensitive nature and I am on completely opposite to that view & I know it could cause a quarrel, how do I respond? Try & change the subject? Give my view? At the same time be sensitive and try and understand the other persons view as well. Or just respond by saying it's better if we don't discuss the subject because we are on such different opinions. 14:01 into episode AER Based on last week’s first question. Does God inhabit all of these possible universes or just our own? 16:53 into episode Proverbs 3 talks about the Lord directing our steps. How do we submit to that? How do I know I’m actually following his direction not just my own desires? In my experience it seems rather confusing most days. 29:24 into episode As Christian’s, how should we respond to fascism when it comes to government. When we have world leaders on a political stage with billionaires throwing nazi salutes, how do we respond to this type of oligarchy? I don’t think Jesus would have wanted the richer and corrupt in power. What are your thoughts? In this weeks episode 376, Pastors Doug and Kyle discuss the following questions: (2:34 into episode) AER: Aer? Or just a separate question? Last week you talked about the power of God being demonstrated and presence of the Holy Spirit, it made me wonder how does testimony support this? (6:20 into episode) 1. I normally put questions in the box on the website, but this one is seemed longer and more convoluted following a conversation I had with my son… feel free to not add it to the podcast if it is not relevant. I’m happy to add more detail if needed. We watched this video about the universe https://youtu.be/isdLel273rQ?si=-mYVGG5lT2TAPk7B Question 1 The question is, do you think the universe is infinite or finite? And is heaven inside the universe or outside of the universe? Question 2 When it says that the increase of his government and peace will know no end (Isaiah 9:7) Does that support the idea that the universe is expanding along with red shift data? After a long discussion which was mostly my son telling me I couldn’t think what I said because it was a paradox… we came up with some ideas… and then decided to throw it to you guys! (45:00 into episode) 2. I hope this doesn’t sound disrespectful to God but do you think heaven will just be us singing love songs to Jesus forever like an endless worship service? Because if I use even a small bit of my imagination, I have to believe it’s way more exciting than that!? What do you guys think heaven will be like? Do you think Jesus and god will have physical bodies in heaven? And if so, how do you think they will spend time with all of us intimately at the same time? Dreaming of heaven today. Over the last few years I have adopted the theology that God is wanting us to participate in his restoration in the world. 1 Inverted Orthodoxy 374- AER on relationships, Relationship Expectations, and the Prince of Eygpt 53:42
In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Blake, Kyle, and Doug discuss the following: AER- 1:12 into episode AER On last weeks topic of friendships with the opposite sex. do you think you’re assessment of the situation might be coming from being raised in the purity culture era or mindset? I would argue that it might be a skewed view and would be curious to know how you feel purity culture impacted each of you both in your teens to now. Question 1 -17:07 into episode Within expectations in others, I struggle with expecting such a high standard, when I know that imperfections can be beautiful. When I expect more, it’s never ended well for me. What is the difference between hope and expectations? And how, biblically, can I reach hope within others and the future rather than disappointment and unrealistic expectations? Instead of expecting god to do something… how can hear what is from him in these circumstances? Question 2 -49:02 into episode I was recently watching the movie “Prince of Egypt” and noticed that one of the plagues seems to be fire from the sky and when I noticed that I realized that I’ve seen other movies depict that before too. When I read about the plagues though that doesn’t seem to be mentioned, is there a translation in which fire from the sky is one of the plagues of Egypt or do you think that it is just the creators of those films trying to make it more dramatic, as though locusts and frogs, and bloody water, etc. aren’t dramatic enough? In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: Aer: Following the conversation last week about lust, is lust always sexual? And what is the difference between lust and coveting? For example I have often watched home make over shows, and felt stuck financially as we couldn’t do renos or afford to move. But I have spent lots of time looking at houses, wishing we could move, imagining my dream house and how I would decorate it. This is not just looking at a house and thinking it is beautiful, the eye is fixed and focused on imagining a life there. Is this lust? How should I treat and honour others biblically ? In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: (4:44 into episode) AERI’m sorry, but you didn’t really hit the nail on the head with the sex before marriage thing, and being males and being married makes a difference. The “no harm no foul” argument on the other side (ie. not investigating causes no harm) can actually be harmful. I have a (female) friend who did not consider this aspect before getting married and they are on the verge of divorce. Spending time in sex tells you a lot about a person, it’s not just about “pleasure”. (13:38 into episode) Where does the concept of seven deadly sins come from? There are lots of lists of sins in the Bible, but I don't see one that is specifically based on what we'd call the "seven deadly sins". (18:57 into episode) Having recently read the book Letters by a Modern Mystic. Is it possible to live life in such a manner that we think of God every minute? If so, what are some practical things that make this possible? (30:34 into episode) How can I tell others about Christ in a way that does not seem formulaic, phony, or goofy? I think many of us feel we will lose respect when we turn the conversation to our love for God and for Christ. (41:37 into episode) What is considered lustful sin ? Is a wandering eye considered a sin ? (Looking at others in a way of feeling attraction and lustful thoughts) Things that I look at on social media ? Even if I’m in a relationship or not. In this weeks episode, Pastors Blake and Doug discuss the following listener questions: AER: Is premarital sex between TWO MATURE PEOPLE REALLY DEVALUING ANYTHING/anyone? I think I would never marry someone without “getting the full picture”. After listening to this week’s message, it makes me wonder how any Christian can vote conservative (right wing, capitalist, individualist), as you focus on working together: ‘What’s best for the group is what should occur’ . In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake and Doug discuss the following listener questions: (1:24 into episode) Thank you for the time you’ve taken to answer my questions. I value the sensitivity, wisdom, tenderness and how you’ve taken in helping me process my questions. This pod cast is life giving. (3:07 into episode) Thank you very much for the time each of you have taken to sit in the quiet with the Lord to learn his wisdom and let him mold your understanding of His character. You’ve obviously let your roots grow deep in his love and now we get to enjoy the fruit of that process. Keep going! I also really appreciate your thoughts on God’s justice. It hit me: God’s vengeance looks like God redeeming Paul. God bless. (4:05 into episode) In Acts 21:4, Paul, by people speaking through the Spirit was told not to go to Jerusalem. Later, he was again told that he would be persecuted and die there. Yet he was sure that he needed to do this. Why did he do it? Was it because he wanted to be like Jesus? Was he trying to do what he thought was right instead of listening to the Spirit? I know I can easily get stuck in that type of thing. The other day I sent in a question about why Paul insisted on going to Jerusalem, even though many, including a profit told him he shouldn’t go. Now, I’m reading acts 2218, where Jesus himself comes to Paul while he is praying: “ 18 (I) saw the Lord speaking to me. ‘Quick!’ he said. ‘Leave Jerusalem immediately, because the people here will not accept your testimony about me.’”Would Paul have stayed alive if he’d listened? (16:52 into episode) What exactly is life? Why did God put us on earth to live a life? Is it a blessing (how and why?) or is it a teaching, as in iron sharpens iron? (33:05 into episode) What is your favourite theologically sound worship song? Resources: Kyle's Favourite worship song- All Hail King Jesus Blake- How Great Thou Art Doug- Matt Maher stories I tell myself album, Song: The lords Prayer. In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer the following questions. In one of the last few podcasts you were discussing homosexuality and Kyle said he’d landed in a non-affirming position, which is fine obviously as I believe there is valid Biblical support either way but he mentioned that one of the big reasons he landed there was the idea that we were created to procreate which obviously doesn’t happen in a homosexual relationship. However, I would like to hear more about that as if that is one of the reasons for landing in a non-affirmative position wouldn’t that also mean he’d be opposed to heterosexual relationships in which they choose not to have children? Or does it make it wrong if people end up in a relationship in which they are unable to have children, would that mean they’d picked the “wrong” partner since God made us for procreation? What do you think God considers justice? He is slow to anger because he doesn’t want anyone to perish. do you think he doesn’t care about vengeance or justice for what is done to us because He wants mercy for the offender? How do you pastor victims of Horrid abuse? Especially when it seems they won’t ever see their abuser held to account for what they did? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug answer the following questions. *Please note the first question in this episode deals with sensitive topics. If you have little ones near, we recommend tuning in at a later time* 1. Warning for content of people watching with kids around - What do you think God thinks about masturbation? What do you think He expects sexually for single people? 2.I’ve been reading about Paul and the early missionaries how they were able to go into worship places and tell people about Jesus. We don’t have that “luxury” today, but sometimes when we encounter people who don’t know Jesus, we want to tell them, How can we start up and then tell them about Him? What do we say? Blake Doug and Kyle are back this week with three more questions. See them below or follow the links at the bottom of our description for more info or to ask your own question. 1. Follow up to the question re: murder which I asked. Thanks for taking the time to respond to it, despite not having context for it. The context for this question was a comparable to a previous episode's question on whether homosexuality was sin. One could go on to ask - is adultery sin? Is murder sin? Is pre-marital sex sin? All of these activities, under the law of Moses, were considered a breaking of God's moral law for the new nation of Israel. They were considered out-of-bounds, ungodly, and unhealthy for God's newly delivered people, as a Nation under Jehovah who were to be markedly different from the Nations around them. To discourage these activities, law was given with consequences, punishment, and in some cases, retribution and death. Fast forwarding to the NT, the church is made up of Jew and Gentile in one body, one new Israel (with Gentiles grafted in), granted the empowering presence of the Spirit that enables us to live in grace that supersedes the ability of the law. If the law pointed a way out of these activities and ways of life, and grace is greater, plus the Spirit's presence empowers us, how much more are we then to be a called out people, not marked by these activities that the law denounced? Further, given the NT's teachings on these activities, how can any of these activities be considered godly or be normalized in the church today? 2. What exactly does it mean in a practical way in everyday life to remain in Jesus? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? Merry Christmas Inverted Orthodoxy Listeners! We are giving our pastors another week off to enjoy with their families. This week's episode revisits questions from episode 338! In episode 338, Pastors Doug, Kyle, and Blake discuss the following: 1. 2:25 into episodeApril 10 - Can you worship to music that isn’t Christian? Is it possible to feel connected to god through music that isn’t targeted that way? 2. 18:50 into episode Apr 10 - I think I’m struggling with my belief. I’m not sure how to believe in a god that would send so many bad things and grief my way. If god is truly all knowing and all loving, why would he make my life be so full of loss and heartache? 1 Inverted Orthodoxy 366- Is murder sin? How does Living Springs disciple and John connected to Mary 52:55
Doug and Kyle are back this week with three more questions. See them below or follow the links at the bottom of our description for more info or to ask your own question. 1. Is murder sin? If so, why? 2. How does Living Springs Church disciple people? What is the process? Where does it start? How does it continue? What is the aim? 3. After thinking about Jesus, taking the time to connect his mother with John and vice versa, as mother and son, I wondered why He did it—Mary had other sons, including James, who would end up following Jesus’ teachings? But then I wondered whether Jesus knew his family, including his mother, needed the discipleship of someone like John, who could help her see why Jesus had to die. We are back this week with some AER that took the whole episode. We discuss models of discipleship 1. It seemed to me in the nov 27th podcast that your basic answer to the question re connection and helping others etc. Was: jesus' way is different than how you live and you need to help people. Go figure it out yourself as to how you can include/help people in your life and get on with it! That doesn't strike me as how Jesus' or the apostles did it. Jesus trained 12 men and had another 100 or so around him all the time who were taking in the training as they went along. So how can the church model this? What intentional training are we providing for core leaders on how to live out the Jesus way, and what groups are actively being developed so more people can grow with those leaders? Clubs are good for connection but there is no training /mentoring happening there. Would LS consider some form of training / Mentoring for those interested in learning the more proactive way of Jesus? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? The guys are on a staff retreat! But we couldn't leave you without an episode. Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: 1. When in John 9, the disciples asked Jesus who had caused a man to be born blind, how could they presume that it might have been the man that had sinned if he was born that way? Did they think that it was possible for God to pre-determine whether someone was going to be sinful? I don’t understand their thinking behind this, but wonder if I’m missing something. And even more important question in John 9. It says, and talking about spiritual faith: “Some Pharisees overheard him and said, “Does that mean you’re calling us blind?” 41 Jesus said, “If you were really blind, you would be blameless, but since you claim to see everything so well, you’re accountable for every fault and failure.” Wouldn’t this mean that those who are spiritually blind are not at blame? If they don’t recognize God, are they blameless? 2. I can’t seem to get off of John 10. Verse 34 Jesus tells us that in the Psalms (82:6), God calls us gods. That is strange enough, but it brings up the question to me, what is the definition of a god? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? In this weeks episode pastors Doug, Blake, and Kyle discuss the following, and we learn Pastor Doug has strong opinions on soup.. 1:42 into episode, Resource Bema Season 3 Is marriage after divorce ok, biblically speaking? 26:56 into episode, Resource Book: The Benedict Option Recently, I was helping a single mom look after her kids after school so she could work late. She was grateful and said that while many others know her situation, nobody else has offered help. This shocks and saddens me. We’re supposed to be the church and this is where I think “how can this happen”, “we should all be more willing to be involved in each other’s lives”… BUT I recognize this is easy for me to say because I’m an extrovert, I love the idea of close-knit community, I’m willing to disrupt our family rhythms for the sake of helping someone, that's my image of honouring christ. What about people who aren’t like me though? I want to tell others to follow my example and love others by giving up their time to show love to each other, but can I really ask this of say an introvert, or perhaps someone deeply aware of their family’s need for regular rhythm. Maybe that's their way of honouring christ. There are likely people out there looking at me and saying the same “I wish they would follow my example” … so my question is: As a people varied in gifting and valuing different things, how do we encourage the church to be the church? How do we spur on one another towards love and good deeds, but still respect each other’s strengths and gifts and also respect each other’s limitations? Wondering if you guys all agree that church and state should be kept separate 2. What do you think is the significance of Jesus ’ eyes being like blazing fire and feet being like burnished bronze in revelation 2:18 3. This might be most relevant to Blake given history in youth ministry but also interested in all perspectives! I recently listened to an episode where you gave some book recommendation (working through them! Awesome!). In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: 2:09 into episode Thank you for your answer on love, how it differentiates from believers to unbelievers. What I had not ever thought of was as a believer I am to love the unlovable, which can be much tougher. In the Bible it does state that we are to not to love only people that love us. 2:44 into the episode AER regarding love in heaven: In Mark: Jesus said, “You’re way off base, and here’s why: One, you don’t know what God said; two, you don’t know how God works. After the dead are raised up, we’re past the marriage business. As it is with angels now, all our ecstasies and intimacies then will be with God. I know you mentioned we would fully love one another, but this seems to indicate a step beyond that. 38:24 into episode July 5 - Do you think that homosexuality is a sin? (note for Blake: we've referenced this in episodes: 160, 170, 209, 214, 231, 256, 276, 296, 297,310,) I’m reading the beginning of Joshua and God seems to regularly give very specific instructions to Joshua/the people of Isreal. In this weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy, the pastors discuss the following: Kyle, on Sunday you preached on John 17 and one of the things you talked about was "oneness" and how we should become one with other believers and not just with God (“I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one."). I'm curious about the the original Greek on the word "one" in that verse (both references) and whether it is the same as the "one" used in Mark 10 in reference to marriage where "two shall become one" is referenced. If it is the same word in all three uses, then how or why does the "oneness" of marriage differ from the "oneness" referred to in John 17 with all believers or with God? Why did Jesus say, of Jairus’ daughter, “this child isn’t dead; she’s merely sleeping “? Was Jesus being sarcastic or lying, or do you believe there is a state of non-breathing where one is not really dead? Is it enough as Christians just to love, forgive, live like Jesus to want people to want Jesus as their personal savior? Many non Christians live their lives like this so is there any difference? Does Jesus not say go out and make disciples? At the start of many shows you say that you will answer the questions that are sent in, and then say that you maybe try to answer them. Inverted Orthodoxy

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle and Blake discuss the following: 2:18 into episode Listening to your AER from #356 when you are discussing prayer and worship. I often find myself praying and calling out to God during the worship at living springs. Sometimes I do that audibly, other times internally. Is that something that could be encouraged during worship to help people lean into prayer further. Often in my own devotion times I find that I start by singing, it helps me focus on God, and then begin to pray with more passion and volume when there is music in the background. In prayer meetings I find it too quiet to pray out loud, so maybe that is a bad habit I have formed. 15:22 into episode In Daniel 9:27, The Message translation indicates that “worship and prayers” will be abolished by the deceiver, yet in other translations say that the deliver will “put an end to sacrifice and offering”. These are very opposed, considering it was Jesus who put an end to sacrifice. Which is it, and why? Thank you Throughout the New Testament there are references to people’s hearts becoming hardened, sometimes Jesus uses this phrase to describe those who don’t understand the meaning behind his parables. But at other times there are references about people whose hearts had become hardened, or it might say, “Don’t let you heart become hard” what does this mean? How can we keep our hearts soft(?) or open to Jesus? 38:37 into episode I find the passage of james 1: 5-8 scary. what kind of wisdom is it talking about when it says you must believe when you pray? it tells me not to doubt when I pray, but the truth is, I have a lot of doubt when I pray. Inverted Orthodoxy

In this weeks episode, Pastors Kyle, Blake, and Doug discuss the following questions: 1:40 into episode listening last week to the throwback with Kyle and Blake discussing some Holy Spirit topics I found myself really sad that the bulk of discussion is about the “misuses” and “errors” of the Holy Spirit and not encouraging people more to seek the Holy Spirit and all His gifts. I came to Christ in a beautiful time when these manifestations of God brought many healings, deliverances from bondages, people transformed in an instant, and I can’t tell you how many people came to know Jesus in a transformative way. Where there misuses, absolutely. But that was not the bulk of what was forming my foundation in Christ. Kyle used the term “don’t go chasing it down” which stands starkly against what I believe I was, which was “hungry for the living God”. Kyle also used the term “Euphoria” in a negative way which if you look up the meaning means “Joy, Excitement, rapture”. We had euphoria all right! But not in a bad sense. I only wish all believers could experience this non-fearful move of the Holy Spirit. I fell under Benny Hinn’s wave of his hand with hundreds of others, I was healed from allergies under Kenneth Haggin Jr’s hand, that did not push me down, and I’ve been slain in the spirit in Living springs, when a lady praying for me took my hands to pray, I melted like butter. I was set free from my issue in one prayer! I often wonder why we don’t experience this these days. Maybe we aren’t hungry enough? 19:57 into episode . Practically speaking, how do we manage laying our lives down for others without being taken advantage of and walked all over? This could apply in any relationship of course, but I’m thinking more specifically as it relates to marriage. I’ve been married many years and have always tried to have the mindset of service to my spouse. Most of the time I put their needs, wants and desires above my own and I know that if both partners are doing that then it can be a beautiful thing, but after quite a few years of marriage, the reality is my spouse does not seem interested in doing their part in seeking out opportunities to serve me and meet my needs. They only really serve others, myself included, when it benefits them in some way. I’m not sure how sacrificial living is supposed to look in this context when it essentially just means I end up the least important person in my own life and household. I guess I’m not sure how to put others first without completely losing myself.…
In this weeks throwback episode, we revisit episode 339 and the questions discussed: 1 - 1:13 seconds into episodeWhat is happening when we pray in tongues? If I’m praying in tongues between God and myself do I need to receive an interpretation? Is praying in tongues a way to pray when we don’t know what to say? Or should it only be done to be interpreted to edify the church body? What role does praying in tongues have in the church body at Living Springs? Is this something that the church needs to be discipled in? 342. 20:40 minutes into episode Apr 14 - I’ve struggled my whole life trying to obey the promptings from the Holy Spirit. Sometimes I think I miss the mark by miles on this. It baffles me how a group of people or couples can all loved the Lord passionately and have differing ideas of what it looks like to follow the leading of the Lord. What are your thoughts on this and how do you navigate through following the promptings of the Lord in your own lives and relationships? 344. 47:40 minutes into episode Apr 14 - On April 13, 2024 Kyle preached on Holy Spirit. Was this really possible? 14:07 into episode Do you think subjectivity is a good thing and needed in Christianity? Was just thinking of moral relativism and how that is becoming a norm in society. I know this has to do what is morally good and bad, and also what truth is. But how do you guys think it should be dealt with in the church? 35:31 into the episode . Hello, was thinking about diversity in the church. Have listened to so views about having churches that are designated for a specific group of people, like chines, Nigerian, Vietnamese, Ukrainian, and so on. But then we also deal with people saying that the church does not have cultural diversity within it. The church is supposed to be diverse… I believe. So can we say that the big C church is diverse with these different churches that have a specific leaning to a cultural group? With this view I struggle with because then are we still practicing segregation? Or does every church need to have diversity within it of every culture that is present within that specific church gathering? Today Blake, Doug and Kyle get into more of your questions. Check out the questions below or head to invertedorthodoxy.com to submit a question. 1. Question about your positions that we won't be tempted to sin in heaven - if that's the case then how did Satan fall from heaven? My understanding of that is that his pride made him want to be bigger than God and that sin is what got him cast out. If Satan, and all the angels who went with him, could sin in heaven, why do you think that we won't be able to or just won't want to? Also, where does the story of Satan's fall from heaven come from in the Bible? 2. As an add on to my question about Satan sinning in heaven, when was Satan cast out from heaven? Presumably it was prior to creation otherwise the serpent wouldn't have been around to tempt Eve but if it was before creation then does that mean heaven and hell were around before the beginning of time? When having a conversation with someone who has differing views than you (i.e. transgender, homosexuality, beliefs in God, or political), what do you find is the most valuable way to conduct yourself in those conversations? In culture today it has become a bit dangerous to express your views because it could mean a conversation with Hr or a strike on our record because the view might not be the common opinion or view of the organization that we might find ourselves in. 3. Why were Pharaoh's magicians able to do the same tricks (ie. rod becoming a snake, River filled with blood, epidemic of frogs...) with their incantations? Was this really possible?…

I once heard you guys talking about how you think we'll have jobs and responsibilities in heaven and that concept was nothing I'd ever really heard before. To be fair, I'd never really given heaven much thought, prayer or study myself, but all that I'd ever heard or understood to that point was that we'd essentially just be sitting and singing praise to God for eternity and that seems to be a fairly common understanding of heaven amongst people I've talked to. Today Blake, Doug and Kyle get into more of your questions. Check out the questions below or head to invertedorthodoxy.com to submit a question. 1. 2:21 In your opinion, are churches with a younger pastoral staff/ volunteer team likely to bring in more people? 2. 15:54 What do you think about hats in church? I grew up with the idea that it is disrespectful for men to wear a hat in church, but when talking to my son I had no real reason to base this on other than the scripture in 1 Cor 11, but I’m not sure if that was cultural than or if it is still relevant now. 3. 31:15 How does the ability to have free will come into play for heaven? With an option to choose we would still have the opportunity to miss the mark or even choose evil, yet if we don’t have the option then what’s the point in having free will as we know it? 4. 39:08 I was reading up on your church believes and it said it follows the Apostles Creed. In the Creed it says it follows the holy Catholic church. The question is, "Does this church follow Catholic? 5. 43:32 Is there a “rite of passage”, particularly for children, that you think could/should be implemented either into the church or into the community as a whole?…

1:58 into the episode June 18-What was your earliest experience of God? And who is the first person who created a memory of God for you? In this weeks episode, Pastors Doug, Kyle and Blake discuss the following: 14:18 into the episode June 18-What experience(s) in your life most shook your faith in God and his goodness? What characteristic of God do you have the hardest time wrapping your head around? 32:19 into the episode June 19-I don’t really understand Genesis 21:16. It makes Ishmael sound like he is still a baby, but he is actually a teen teenager, and an adult in Jewish tradition, right?! And why is there no water around? It just seems that they are both of an age where they could work, or find berries, or something; are they destitute because this is God‘s plan? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? We are all back in the studio for episode 350! this week we continue our conversation on a "just" God, and more: June 18 - I am struggling with the concept of a "just" God, I understand that there are other forces at work in this world like sin and the enemy so we all go through hard times. But, it seems that some people, through no real fault of their own, can just never catch a break and it's constantly just one hardship after another with no end in sight. How does a "just" God not intervene in those people's lives in a more obvious way? Also, why do we believe God will meet our needs? The scriptures say we're more valuable than sparrows, etc., but in reality there are people every day whose basic needs aren't met, often through sheer circumstance of where they were born - if God doesn't meet their needs then why should we think we're any better than them and expect that our daily needs will be met? June 18- What legacy or impact do you hope to leave in the churches you serve? June 18-What is an area of blessing in your life right now? What area of your life is God currently challenging you to grow in? Do you have a question you've been wanting answered? Head on over to our website www.invertedorthodoxy.com to submit a question. The pastors are back from summer vacation and we have new questions for you! Pastors Doug and Kyle discuss the following: 1:23 into the episode July 24 - AER - OnJuly 24, Kyle had said to seek out help from them unless they are the ones that have bullied(which I don’t believe you have), if you have, would you be open to being confronted? 6:03 into the episode AER: this is for the conversation on short term missions. Is there a way, to counter the whiteness, or even western intentions of bringing our way of church to a different context, to say to the people going and the people who we may be visiting, that we are wanting to learn how the kingdom of God is moving in their context? While also asking, how can we make this impactful with coming for a short period of time. Ask How can we best serve or support the people in that country, city, church. Just some thoughts. 11:06 into the episode Aer - On episode 348 you discuss the great commission and the idea that pretty much everyone has been reached, in terms of the “go and tell the good news”. In our western society where Christianity is declining, do you really think people know the good news? I wonder if people have heard some stories, Christmas, Easter, Noah’s ark etc. But do you think they have really heard/seen/experienced the life changing good news of Jesus? 20:32 into the episode Jun 17 - Because there are so many theological differences and those differences have resulted in tens of thousands of denominations what is necessary for orthodoxy? What are, in your opinion, the basic beliefs that all Christians need to hold in order to remain orthodox? Thanks for joining us on this episode of the Inverted Orthodoxy Podcast! This weeks episode of Inverted Orthodoxy brings us a throwback! As the guys take some well deserved summer vacation, we wanted to revisit an older episode with you. This week we are jumping way back to when we were the Q&A Podcast! We hope you enjoy this trip down memory lane, and see how far we've come! Welcome to the throwback episodes: 1. I am graduating this year and hoping to attend school to become a pastor. I’m curious if you can talk about what credentials you need to preach? Additionally, if there aren’t necessarily credentials, how do you go about preaching in a church? How does one go about becoming a leadership staff? 2.Is there a scriptural basis for the Catholic view of purgatory? Where does that come from? Have you ever participated in or observed an exorcism? Would you say that there are “too many” exorcisms done in our culture (I.e. people over exaggerating struggles as demon possession)? Or “too few” (I.e. underestimating the influence of evil spirits)? 3.If you had to adopt any Catholic practice (that is not adopted by the church already), which one would it be? Is there any practice that you vehemently would not adopt? 4.Are cliques a symptom of any public setting? We are relatively new to the church and can find it to be a bit cliquey, is this something you’ve heard generally of LS? or is it a symptom of women’s ministry? I suppose I particularly note it within women’s ministry, but my husband has also noticed it some in non women’s settings. I hope this doesn’t come across as accusatory, just Simply struggling a bit and don’t necessarily feel comfortable bringing it directly to WM, as I am finding it to be this way.
