This week on #TubtaNabadda, we discuss the importance of a people-centred approach and increased community involvement for the strengthening of local security across Somalia. In the first segment, we speak with Helen Olafsdottir, the Chief Technical Advisor for Security Sector Reform at the UN Development Programme (UNDP) in Somalia. She shares invaluable insights on best practices for enhancing security sector governance in Somalia, and emphasises the significance of the ‘Building Accountable and Sustainable Security in Somalia (BASIS)’ programme, particularly in light of the evolving political and social landscape in the country. In the second part, we discuss with Mohamed Yasin Abdullahi, the Director General of South West State’s Ministry of Internal Security. He tells us how vital it is for local communities to be involved in shaping security policies and addressing their specific security challenges, which ultimately leads to stronger community engagement. He also shares how the Ministry is actively involving citizens in policy development and how recent Federal Member State workshops are advancing security sector reforms, governance, and peacebuilding initiatives in Somalia. The program is presented by Salah Osman and Faiza Abdi Warsame. Listen to the podcast of this and previous episodes of the show on: iTunes: https://podcasts.apple.com/.../tubta-...
