SHOW NOTES:

In Podcast Episode 264, “The Lord Raised Up…” Kim discusses the difference between having the Lord raise someone up against you due to your insistence on doing evil and being raised up by the Lord for His good purpose. As we saw in the last episode, King Solomon insisted on his own way, which was disastrous for himself and the people of Israel. I pray that each of us will insist on being exactly who the Lord raised us up to be.

Our focal passages for this episode are 1 Kings 11:14-25 with verse 14 and 23 as the focal verses:

14 Then the Lord raised up Hadad the Edomite, a member of Edom’s royal family, to be Solomon’s adversary.

23 God also raised up Rezon son of Eliada as Solomon’s adversary. Rezon had fled from his master, King Hadadezer of Zobah,

WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT FEATURE:

Prayerfully consider what the Lord may have raised you up to do.

Additional Resources and Scriptures:

  • 16 Then the Lord raised up judges to rescue the Israelites from their attackers. (Judges 2:16)
  • 18 Whenever the Lord raised up a judge over Israel, he was with that judge and rescued the people from their enemies throughout the judge’s lifetime. For the Lord took pity on his people, who were burdened by oppression and suffering. (Judges 2:18)
  • 9 But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, the Lord raised up a rescuer to save them. His name was Othniel, the son of Caleb’s younger brother, Kenaz. (Judges 3:9)
  • 15 But when the people of Israel cried out to the Lord for help, the Lord again raised up a rescuer to save them. His name was Ehud son of Gera, a left-handed man of the tribe of Benjamin. The Israelites sent Ehud to deliver their tribute money to King Eglon of Moab. (Judges 3:15)
  • These are the last words of David: “David, the son of Jesse, speaks—
    David, the man who was
    raised up so high,
David, the man anointed by the God of Jacob,
David, the sweet psalmist of Israel. (2 Samuel 23:1)
  • Long ago you spoke in a vision to your faithful people. You said, “I have raised up a warrior. I have selected him from the common people to be king. (Psalm 89:19)
  • But in that coming day no weapon turned against you will succeed. You will silence every voice raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by the servants of the Lord; their vindication will come from me. I, the Lord, have spoken! (Isaiah 54:17)
  • 15 You claim that the Lord has raised up prophets for you in Babylon. (Jeremiah 29:15)
  • 10 All the land from Geba, north of Judah, to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become one vast plain. But Jerusalem will be raised up in its original place and will be inhabited all the way from the Benjamin Gate over to the site of the old gate, then to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. (Zechariah 14:10)
  • 26 When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.” (Acts 3:26)
