Cheri was last seen on January 7, 1987, in Kansas City, Missouri. Less than a month later, the body of her mother, Elizabeth Turek who went by Sissy, was discovered in St. Louis, Missouri lying in the Mississippi River. It took 7 years for Sissy's remains to be identified and for police to open a missing person's case on Cheri.
