October is National Youth Substance Use Prevention Month, and in this episode, we talk with two 13-year-olds from Dover Youth2Youth about prevention and the programs they bring to their peers. Our guests share incredible knowledge and important perspective, especially for adults working with teens. Listening to what young people can accomplish with their peers enhances adults’ work in prevention, as exemplified by the useful tips throughout this episode for engaging with kids.
Dover Youth2Youth (Y2Y), located in New Hampshire, is a comprehensive youth empowerment program where students are organized to participate as part of the solution to drug and violence problems. Dover Y2Y is particularly well known for their youth-taught multimedia presentations to students and adults on implementing youth empowerment programs, capacity building, and advocacy skills development. They have won a variety of national awards, have presented extensively at national conferences, and travel regularly throughout the U.S. to help other groups start or expand their youth advocacy programs.
