An oversimplified version of the blockchain: it's a digital record-keeping system through the internet.
This digital record-keeping system keeps track of monetary exchanges (crypto transactions) and other digital assets (NFTs).
If we want the blockchain of our choice to keep track of records and transactions, we need to have our own "account" like a bank account.
We can also think of it like a mailing address. If we want someone to send us something, we need a mailing address for the blockchain to use.
Groups of people and organizations have created (somewhat) simple and easy ways for us to keep track of these accounts / mailing addresses so that we can use the blockchain - a web3 wallet.
