Banda Machos
Manage episode 412606708 series 3331433
Quebradita was Different when it arrived in the early 1990s. It was faster, more modern, flashy, and in the case of Banda Machos: extremely h*rny. Makes sense why they are one of Jerry’s favorite bands.
For Jerry & Fern, young teenagers in Los Angeles (Huntington Park) at the time, artists like Banda Machos made it cool to be paisa. Before this, being too Mexican was low-key embarrassing. Vicente, Juan Gabriel, Los Bukis - anything perceived as too Mexican was outdated or corny. This was the era of Death Row and 90s Hip-Hop. Grunge, MTV. Banda Machos CAME onto the scene DRIPPING in paisa Swag. It was in your face, loud, fast, hard, harder... OMG...RIGHT THERE... whoops sorry about that, got carried away with the caption there.
REAL TALK Banda Machos was unapologetic and kept the torch burning for Mexican music during the 1990s. Today, musica regional is massive and only growing in popularity. It's thanks to bands like Machos who kept it relevant during their era that we're able to see the continued success! Saquen la bolsita & the ostrich boots, we turning up with this one!!!
