The eighth episode of TWITBE reviews the past week of BIG EAST basketball, taking a deep dive into the league’s top contenders for the regular season title. Heading into the final stretch of the regular season, Marquette is in a position of claiming the regular season title and top seed for the BIG EAST Tournament, following its latest win over Creighton on Tuesday.
The BIG EAST Spotlight is on Marquette guard Tyler Kolek, who is leading Shaka Smart’s Golden Eagles squad toward a BIG EAST regular season championship. Kolek discusses the leadership role he took on ahead of the season, and the success Marquette has had throughout the season.
The BIG EAST Focus shines on Creighton head coach Greg McDermott. After a difficult midweek home loss to Marquette, the Bluejays are still in prime position to not only make a run in the BIG EAST Tournament, but the NCAA Tournament as well. Creighton endured a difficult early season six-game losing streak and is now poised for postseason competition thanks in large part to the leadership of McDermott.
CBIS Sports Analyst Steve Lappas gives a view on the national perspective. Lappas joins the show to break down the BIG EAST race. The top five teams have likely reserved their places in March Madness, but Lappas gives his perspective on how many teams might advance out of the league.
The episode’s “Who’s Hot” segment features the return of “Blast from the Past”, rewinding the tape to 1985. The infamous “Sweater Game” with Georgetown coach John Thompson wearing a replica of St. John’s Louie Carnesecca’s sweat before the game. Patrick Ewing had 20 points and 13 rebounds as the Hoyas defeated St. John’s 85-69.
The returning hosts for This Week In The BIG EAST (#TWITBE) are John Rooke, a longtime BIG EAST play-by-play voice, and Kevin McNamara, BIG EAST radio host, columnist and author. Rooke and McNamara give a comprehensive look at the teams, coaches, players and storied tradition of the top basketball conference in America in each episode.
