Oscar Pistorius, a South African Paralympic athlete, fatally shot his partner Reeva Steenkamp on February 14, 2013, asserting that he had mistaken her for an intruder. Following a widely publicized trial, he was initially found guilty of culpable homicide. However, an appeal led to his conviction of murder in 2015. In 2017, Pistorius was sentenced to 13 years in prison. This case spurred discussions on self-defense, firearm regulation, and domestic abuse.
