Episode summary:

I am delighted to welcome our guest, Uche Chukwu, to our live podcast this week.

In this podcast, recorded live on March 10,2023 Uche Chukwu and Martin Cowart will lead a discussion to teach vulnerable LGBTQ Africans the best ways to safeguard themselves and their loved ones in this trying period.

In light of the hostile rhetoric and government crack-downs on human rights groups in Africa, I invited Uche to be my co-host to talk with LGBTQ African’s about the importance of protecting themselves from the hostile and dangerous environment where they are living.

Uche is a Nigerian-American gay man living in the United States. Uche moved to the United States at age 15 with his parents.

Uche’s aware of the privileges of growing up gay in America. He believes this is his reality and not the reality of his LGBTQ Africans living in Africa.

LGBTQ people have no protection, especially from the government. It is important for LGBTQ Africans to protect themselves by not publicly displaying their identity as LGBTQ.

It is critical for LGBTQ Africans to be safe and not seen in order to protect themselves from potential harm.and need to take safe cover underground to protect themselves.

Kenya's First Lady Rachel Ruto has declared national prayers against homosexuality and the Ugandan Parliament has granted an MP leave to process the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023, which would prohibit same-sex relationships.

If you’re LGBTQ living in Africa now is the time to be safe, not seen. Tune in to find out exactly how self-love and self-care is critical for your survival. We will tell you exactly what you must be doing to protect yourselves from the people on the ground who want to cause you harm.

If you’re LGBTQ living in Africa, don’t miss this opportunity to learn and share what we need to do to go undercover and protect yourself during unrest.

Devoted to helping members of the African Diaspora LGBTQ community, Uche is a life coach and podcast host who works to enable LGBTQ Africans to reclaim their true selves in the face of systemic racism and homophobia.
