Today’s podcast is about song lyrics. I have written lyrics for a few songs, but only a few with music also. I played the trombone from 5th through 8th grades. I college I bought an alto recorder and eventually graduated to a tenor recorder. I was able to play songs by ear. Later I was able to write the music to a couple of songs by giving the fingering positions on the recorder the same numbers I gave to the lines on the musical staff.
I had actually thought of writing a musical play at one time using the songs.

I guess I will have to brush up on my music skills. This is going better than I thought.
WHO IS THIS ONE
Verse 1
Born of Mary’s womb the Son of God became the son of man (15)
No room but the manger for the Word of God born of woman (15)
Like you, like me the Word living like you, like me, just as we (15)
Living our lives from morning through night, seeking to hear God’s word (15)
Refrain
Who is this one, who is this son (8)
The Son of God, the son of man (8)
A lowly birth born on this earth (8)
He came for us, God’s Son Jesus (8)
Verse 2
He became the son of a carpenter with hands holding nails (15)
The nails of a carpenter who builds a roof for protection (15)
This Son who would build a temple with nails driven through his hands (15)
When did he know he would one day be the salvation of man (15)
Refrain
Who is this one, who is this son
The Son of God, the son of man
A lowly birth born on this earth
He came for us, God’s Son Jesus
Verse 3
From carpenter to shepherd building the temple within man (15)
Becoming the Good Shepherd gathering the lost sheep of God (15)
Straying, having lost the way he lived that we might see our hope (15)
Saving then building our hope, preparing a room in Heaven (15)
Refrain
Who is this one, who is this son
The Son of God, the son of man
A lowly birth born on this earth
He came for us, God’s Son Jesus
Who is this one, who is this son
The Son of God, the son of man
A lowly birth born on this earth
He came for us, God’s Son Jesus

THE BEGINNING
In the beginning was the word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God,
He was with God in the beginning.
John 1:1-2
Verse 1
Six days in His creation, then one to rest, (12)
Seven became the number of completion (11)
Of His creation, His divine perfection. (11)
Then those created in His image began their quest. (12)
Refrain
Did the angels sing (5)
When creation was done? (6)
Did they spread their wings (5)
Bowing before the Son? (6)
Verse 2
The prophets of the old days foretold of his birth, (12)
Of his life as a man living on this earth. (11)
To us a child is born, a son is given (11)
By the virgin so mankind will be forgiven (12)
Refrain 2
Did the angels sing (5)
At the birth of this one? (6)
Did they spread their wings (5)
Bowing before the Son? (6)
Verse 3
Was it God now living on this earth among us (12)
To live with our temptation this man Jesus? (11)
Never changing from the beginning God’s word (11)
Living among us on this earth, yes we have heard. (12)
Refrain 3
Hear the angels sing
At the life of God’s Son.
See them spread their wings
Knowing what he has done.
Then God said, Let us make mankind in our own image . . .”
Genesis 1:26

Words and numbers, sometimes there is a reason. I started this while at a fundraiser Saturday night. I’m not sure what was being said for part of the time. I wrote the last verse when I got home. I have never done this before; I had to start with the last line and write the lines from end to beginning.
GOD’S SONG IS OUR SONG
Verse 1
Just sit and listen to the song, (8)
The words that beautifully belong (9)
In our heart at the days start, (7)
Words that are true, that will renew (8)
God’s spirit in us as we hear it (9)
Sung over and over, again and again (11)
Leading us each day away from our sin. (10)
Refrain
Let us raise up the Heavenly cup (9)
As we eat of the bread of life, (8)
The blood of the new covenant (8)
The body sacrificed to lift us up. (9)
Verse 2
Hear his song when we are forlorn. (8)
When the world leaves us tattered and torn (9)
Feel the warmth of His embrace (7)
Shielding us from our daily race. (8)
God is grace full so we are grateful. (9)
May we be covered by the blood Jesus shed (11)
As we rise up to face the day ahead. (10)
Refrain
Let us raise up the Heavenly cup (9)
As we eat of the bread of life, (8)
The blood of the new covenant (8)
The body sacrificed to lift us up. (9)
Verse 3
At the end of the day we pray, (8)
Praying that tomorrow we will stay (9)
Walking again by His side, (7)
That our face we will never hide, (8)
One step forward following Your word. (9)
Saving us forever without fear and dread (11)
The Son of God, Jesus, raised from the dead. (10)
Refrain
Let us raise up the Heavenly cup (9)
As we eat of the bread of life, (8)
The blood of the new covenant (8)
The body sacrificed to lift us up. (9)

The next one is not song lyrics, but is a poem about song.
2/20/18, if I could sing, I would write you a song. But I can’t carry a tune, let alone sing one.
THE POWER OF SONG
How many of David’s psalms were written as a song,
The singing of which calms aches we’ve had for too long?
There is the spoken word that we have heard,
Then add to that the sound of singing and bask in the joy it is bringing.
There is something about a song if the music is as strong
As the words that are sung after the bells have been rung
When Sunday worship has come to a close.
Throughout the week, no matter where we are,
God’s word in the songs, we remember those.
Every age has its chords that glorify the Lord’s
Love for those of us who have come to know Jesus.
Through faith and God’s grace we will feel the pace
Of our hearts as they beat and the moving of our feet.
Yours and mine and ours can listen for hours
While working and playing we also can be heard saying
Words of the Lord of heavenly chords.
We need no book at which to look.
We sing the words, in or out of tune.
No matter, it won’t be long, but soon
That we are praising God and all his forgiving,
Thus filling ourselves with his grace in our living.

Discussion:
The next lyrics have been put to music. Sorry, but we won’t be playing the music to it. I may sing the Refrain if Dave asks me really nicely, pretty, pretty, pretty please.
The introduction to the song is from a Facebook post.
In February of 1983 a man I know wrote a song for Easter. He had put a lot of effort into it. He showed me his notes from Bible verses that he had written before attempting to write the song. He hadn’t played music since junior high school, which had been more than a few years before this. But he found a way to get from his system of numbers to musical notes. He told me that only one person has played and sung the song other than himself. That friend recently passed away. Why he waited until 2009 to copyright the song, you will have to ask him. He asked me to share it. (Interesting note: He claims that he can only sing the 3rd verse because that is the verse he used when writing the music. He can’t sing the other verses with the music.)
May you enjoy the blessings of Easter.
SPIRIT OF THE RESURRECTION
1.
God’s angel said, have no fear of me.
I know the crucified one you hope to see.
He is not here, He has been raised,
Oh, our God in Heaven be praised.
Refrain
He took the place of so many sinners
And prayed that they might be forgiven.
By His suffering we have been healed.
Sing Hallelujah, Jesus Christ is risen.
2.
By the power of the Father of all glory
Jesus, the Lamb, was raised from death in three days.
As in Old Testament stories
He has been faithful to God’s ways.
Refrain
He took the place of so many sinners
And prayed that they might be forgiven.
By His suffering we have been healed.
Sing Hallelujah, Jesus Christ is risen.
3.
We do praise you God, the Father of our Savior.
By your boundless mercy with ease we can cope.
Ever living life we savor
Through Jesus Christ our risen hope.
Refrain
He took the place of so many sinners
And prayed that they might be forgiven.
By His suffering we have been healed.
Sing Hallelujah, Jesus Christ is risen.
4.
By giving to Jesus our spirit and soul
In the resurrection with Jesus we share
A new life with Him as God’s heirs.
Through Jesus we are now made whole.
Refrain
He took the place of so many sinners
And prayed that they might be forgiven.
By His suffering we have been healed.
Sing Hallelujah, Jesus Christ is risen.

I wrote the words in February of 1983. I wrote the music February 24th while Mary Lou was in the hospital after delivering daughter number three, also know as child number 4.
AS WE CLOSE IN PRAYER, MAY WE CONTINUE IN PRAYER
Dear Heavenly Father we come to you in prayer as we end today’s podcast. Dave and I thank You for Your leading us through the day and into tomorrow. We pray that today has been pleasing to You and honors Your glory.
We pray for our listeners and viewers; for their needs, healing and the salvation of those who have not yet accepted the gift of Your grace by faith.
We pray, Lord, for this world in which we live. Father, as Christians lead us to proclaiming the gospel where ever we are. May we do so in a loving way. Lead us to the truth of the days we are living in. We pray for the nation of Ukraine and its people; its leaders, those who have fled the country to find safety, those who are still trying to leave the country and those who are staying to fight the invading army of their enemy. May their faith and determination be an example to the entire world.
Dear Lord, prepare us and our listeners and viewers for the coming week. We pray that it is You we live for and You who leads us. As we walk with you this week, may it be Your hand clasped around our hand so we may feel the grasp of Your love.
We pray in the name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer.
Amen
