WEEK 38: SUMMARY
===========
Insights Summary:
The years leading up to the Savior’s arrival among the Nephites are tumultuous. There are external struggles between the Gadianton Robbers and internal struggles with the demons of doubt and discouragement. There are also bright moments of faith when believers choose to “hope against hope” as Paul would say. This week you’ll study their experiences and watch the Lord fulfill His promise. It’s a fantastic week of study.
Questions to Consider:
- 3 Nephi 1:9 | The believers in prophecy are threatened with death. It’s like Esther’s story in the Old Testament. They are not forming an uprising. They don’t want power. They are not a threat. Question: What causes this kind of extreme reaction? What problem are the dissenters trying to solve? Do you see this fear-based violence against the light in our day?
- 3 Nephi 3:2 | Giddianhi, the Gadianton leader, demands that Lachoneus and the Nephites surrender themselves and their lands. He tries many techniques to convince Lachoneus to surrender. Question: Do you see similarities between this letter and the temptations Satan tried to offer the Savior? Are there similarities with Moses 1? What tools/knowledge does Lachoneus use to see through the trap?
- 3 Nephi 7:26 | After seeing the miracles of Nephi, many believe. They choose to repent and are baptized by authorized priesthood holders.
- 25 Therefore, there were ordained of Nephi, men unto this ministry, that all such as should come unto them should be baptized with water, and this as a witness and a testimony before God, and unto the people, that they had repented and received a remission of their sins.
- 26 And there were many in the commencement of this year that were baptized unto repentance;
- Question: How is repentance a pre-requisite for baptism and something you’re baptized unto? Are these different types of repentance (like the different types of hope we discussed)? What does it mean to be baptized “unto” repentance?
