Hi guys! Welcome back to my podcast! In today's episode, I'll teach you how to use the superlative in Italian, you'll hear how the superlative is used in everyday sentences. You should know, that in Italian, there are two different types of superlatives. During today's episode we'll analyze them in detail one at a time. You'll hear a lot of examples, I'll report them in the description of this episode, take a look! Have a good time listening!

Superlative Absolute:

In the superlative absolute, the quality is at the highest possible degree, without any comparison.

How it is formed:

- With the suffix "… -issimo", "… -issima", "… -issimi", "… -issime"

- By putting "Molto …", "Assai …", "Decisamente …", "Estremamente …" before

- With prefixes like "arci- …", "super- …", "iper- …", "ultra- …"

Superlative Relative:

In the superlative relative, the quality is at the highest degree of majority and minority with respect to other things or people.

How it is formed:

– Majority:

Il più (adjective) … di / tra / fra (other things or people we’re making a comparison with)

– Minoranza:

Il meno (adjective) … di / tra / fra (other things or people we’re making a comparison with)

Examples of Absolute Superlative:

- Il fiore è bellissimo

- Il fiore è molto bello

- Il fiore è decisamente bello

- Il fiore è superbello

- Il fiore è extrabello

- Il fiore è ultrabello

Examples of Relative Superlative:

- Marco è il più alto del gruppo

- Marco è il meno alto tra gli amici

N.B.

Sometimes "Di", "Tra", "Fra" can be omitted!

For example:

Hanno scelto solo i giocatori più alti (s’intende tra i giocatori della squadra)
