Have you ever found yourself in a gallery, staring at a work of art, and thought, "This is so $hit that even I could do it" or "How did the artist get away with this?" Sean has felt this way many times. His friend Sean, an artist and academic deeply involved in the art world, however, sees things differently.

One day, after visiting a contemporary art museum, Sean texted Sean: “Went to the MCA today. Didn’t understand a f&*%^ing thing. Thought of you.” Later, over beers, Sean tried to explain why the art wasn't necessarily shit. Sean wasn't convinced. But the conversation didn't stop. It turned into a debate that their respective wives eventually suggested they turn into a podcast.

"Is Art Shit?" dares to dive into the bewildering, sometimes baffling world of contemporary art, unravelling its mysteries with a potent cocktail of wit and wisdom. From invisible works to inert gases and empty rooms, the Seans boldly tackle the question: Is Art Shit? Perfect for those who relish engaging discussions and a laugh, join Sean and Sean as they explore the contentious boundaries of art.

This week, Sean and Sean discuss Tom Friedman's 1000 Hours of Staring (1992-97). Is it shit? Let’s see what Sean thinks…

All music composed, performed and produced by The Ghosts of Nothing, courtesy The Ghosts of Nothing and Perfect Pitch Publishing.
