Welcome to Episode 7 of Expatlang's French podast - Understand Native French.

In today's episode - THE CARNIVAL IN FORT-DE-FRANCE

Today's episode is released in February, that is to say, in the middle of the winter. But let's not be sad as the snow and wind come bashing at our doors. February is the season of carnivals all around the world. Rio, Venice are just some of the most famous. Bur in France, we don't lack famous carnivals. Nice Carnival is very famous for its flower battles, and Dunkerque's carnival for herring fights. But somewhere in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, on the small island of Martinique, a very special carnival takes place : the carnival of Fort-De-France.

What's so special about it ? Let a pure Martinican tell you about it. In today's episode, Cyril's my guest. He'll be telling us everything you need to know about this mad celebration : when it takes place, how it's organised and who on Earth is this mysterious creature : Vaval.

Listen to the episode to find out more about it.
