Tendo isso em vista, a filósofa Karen J. Warren identifica na literatura ecofeminista várias interconexões entre mulheres e natureza, sendo uma delas a espiritual, para a qual as espiritualidades e os símbolos feministas são essenciais para o ecofeminismo. Por esse motivo, essa corrente é entendida como essencialista e, embora lhe sejam dirigidas críticas, Warren defende que a espiritualidade ocupa um lugar importante no ecofeminismo.
