Refreshing a website should be a thing that you build into your business model. How often you update your site is entirely dependent on the type of industry you’re in. Fashion brands update at least twice a year and possibly rebuild their sites every 3 or 5 years.

For Rix Kix on the other hand, her current site probably isn’t broken to the point of not being usable. However, there is that feeling that it’s probably holding her back. So, where do you start?

The best thing about a web refresh project is that you can use it to also revisit your brand. Branding has 2 levels – let’s call them core and visceral.

At the core level, we are talking about the hard stuff. First, you have the visual identity – logomark, colour palate, primary and secondary graphics. Then you have the brand identity – what your brand stands for; its personality, values, mission and so forth. The visceral stuff then stems from the above. The way your photos are shot and presented are an extension of your brand identity – its personality should ideally be expressed here.

So, take the time to revisit your brand and update what needs to be updated.

Refreshing a website for Google

As for Google search optimisation, every bit counts – maps, business pages and locations. Google business pages are the new Yellow Pages. You have to have one to be found, so make sure this is also integrated into your site. Check out our previous episode with School of Hard Knock Knocks here to get best out of multiple venues.

Dance is movement and video shows movement. Therefore, more YouTube. Use the visual medium that best captures movement to showcase the work and the dance. And make sure it is uploaded to YouTube with all the right tags and keywords, so that they can be found.

Check out the Rix Kix website here if you’re in the Darwin area and would like some kick-arse dance lessons.
