Coach Dan Taylor has over twenty years of coaching boys and girls in the sports of basketball, football, soccer, and track and field. Currently, he is the varsity head girl’s basketball coach at King’s. He teaches PE, Health and Faith and Justice at King's High school. He helps lead the King's C.A.R.E. team (Community, Action, Reconciliation, and Equity) and has done Race, Culture, Diversity, and Equity work in public and private schools. Since 2012, Coach Taylor has been the Washington State Girls Basketball Coaches Association President. He has been an ASB Advisor, Link Crew Advisor, Black Student Union Advisor, Fellowship of Christian Athletes Advisor, and Social Justice Club Advisor. He has a Master's in School Counseling From Seattle Pacific University and has led workshops on Culturally Engaging Coaching, Team Leadership, College Recruiting, Team Building, and sport-specific sessions. He is Black and Korean and loves working with students of bi-racial backgrounds by helping them find strength in their identity through their cultural background and academic journeys. He has led workshops on student engagement, culturally responsive teaching, culturally responsive coaching, and other topics relating to equity and diversity issues. Coach Taylor is addicted to reading (just check out his office) and loves to do anything that is active especially if it is somewhere outdoors in the Northwest. Harris spent 31 years on the varsity bench at two different high schools. He was at Bridgeport for 5 years and 25 years at Chelan. Harris has a 516-260 career record, with a Class 1A State Championship in 1998. Eight of his teams claimed state trophies. In 2011, Harris was inducted into the WIBCA Hall-of-Fame. He has been involved in the Association for many years and is currently the President of the Association as well as the Director of the Spring Coaches Clinic held annually in Lake Chelan. Coach Harris has been married for 35 years to his wife Alice and they have four children, Kaiti, Joe, Jaicee, and Mackenzie. Coach currently teaches PE and High School Strength & Conditioning at Chelan Middle/High School. Ridnour’s teams placed 9 of 11 years at the State Tournament, including 2nd in 1998, state 2A titles in 1999 and 2000. In that 3-year time frame, Ridnour’s Borderites were 74-5. His Bellingham Slam of the International Basketball League were a big success winning three IBL titles during his tenure. Coach and his wife Muriel have two children, Heather and Luke. Luke played for Coach at Blaine and went on to play at the University of Oregon. Luke was drafted 14thoverall in the 2003 NBA draft by the Seattle SuperSonics. Luke went on to have a successful long NBA career. Coach is retired and is training players at Luke’s gym called the RAC (Ridnour Athletic Club)…
Today on the podcast we happy to have the Head Football Coach of the Mount Baker Mountaineers Ron Lepper. Lepper is a 1980 graduate of Cashmere High School where he played football and wrestled. After high school, Lepper continued his playing days at Wenatchee Valley Community College, then went to Simon Fraser University where he played football and wrestled. Lepper’s coaching stops along the way include Simon Fraser, Ferndale, Palo Verde HS (CA), and Mount Baker. Lepper came to Mount Baker in 1994 where he remains to this day. He has coached Football, Boys & Girls Wrestling, Softball, Baseball and Girls Basketball. Lepper has coached over 90 sports seasons…WOW!! Lepper was a 2016 inductee to the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association. Lepper has been the Head Football Coach at Mount Baker for the last 24 years. Today on the podcast we have the absolute honor to have Michelle Roy on with us today…If your memory fails you, she is the former Michelle Wiitala from Naselle, one of the school’s most famous athletes. Michelle graduated from Naselle in 1980. Some of her high school accomplishments were: • A school-record 1,414 points which still stands to this day. She also scored 146 state tournament points in 7 games in 197-1980. • All-state basketball player her junior & senior seasons. • Do not know if this is still a record, but her family, Don (Dad), Dale (Brother), and she are the only family to be named all-state basketball. • Her Comets played for the state B title in 1979, losing to Ritzville. In the semi-final game vs Bickleton, the Comets had to go 3 overtimes to win 52-51. • In Michelle’s senior year she placed 2nd in the 400 meters. • Her 100-meter time of 12.7 set in 1978 is still a school record. In College: • Played basketball at LCC and Gonzaga • Her freshman year at LCC, placed 3rd in the NWAAC with a 25-5 record. She hit a running hook shot with no time left, to secure that 3rd place finish. • In her senior season at GU were ranked 19th in the country, and playing their best basketball then had a career-ending injury. • She was inducted into the LCC Hall of Fame in 2018. • She received her bachelor’s degree from Gonzaga in Special Education, and her Master’s in Administration & Curriculum. Roy has held various coaching, teaching & administrative jobs in Washington. She is going into her 18th year in education and is currently a Special Education teacher at Skyridge Middle School in the Camas School district. Roy has been married to her husband Stuart for the past 32 years. They have two children, Blake, and Brooke. Blake graduated from the University of Redlands in Southern California this spring. Brooke will be a junior at Cal State Monterey Bay and runs cross country and track.…

De Haan spent 34 years on the varsity bench and 38 years overall at Lynden Christian High School. De Haan has a 772-149 career record, the most wins for a high school girls varsity basketball coach in the State of Washington. His JV teams were 71-1 during his time as the LC JV Coach. In Coach De Haan’s 34 years as a head coach, his teams made 31 state appearances. His teams made 23 semi-final appearances, 13 state championship game appearances, with 8 state championships. Coach De Haan has never had a losing season and has won 20 or more games in 30 seasons with undefeated teams in 1996 and 2008. His last game as a head coach in 2014, De Haan won the teams’ 8th state championship. We talk about the championships and wins, but I think what is more impressive is that he has had the opportunity to make a difference in his player’s lives through basketball and his faith. His goal was always to help young ladies not only become better basketball players, but better people. Today on the podcast we have the privilege to have The Queen of “B” basketball Jen Greeny, aka Jennifer Stinson on with us today. Jen is the Washington State University Volleyball Coach. Jen started high school in Davenport in 1991. By the time she left Davenport. · The Lady Gorilla basketball team record was 111-9, with state championships in 1992 and 1993, 2nd in 1994 and 3rdin 1995. · She scored 2,881 points in her high school career, which at the time was the record for girl’s high school basketball, which was recently broke by Cashmere’s Hailey Van Lith. · Her 421 state tournament points in 16 games are still a record today at State B. · Scored 43 points in her final game, tying the school record set by fellow Davenport teammate Stacia Marriott (Soliday) · Jen was not only a basketball player but a stellar volleyball player, leading Davenport to the 1994 State B Volleyball Championship. · Greeny was also the 3-time State B High Jump champion in track. After high school, she accepted a volleyball scholarship from Washington State University, where she excelled as a student-athlete. At WSU, she became the 7th player in school history with 1,000 kills. A three-time all-Pac-10 Conference selection, Greeny’s other stats are prominent in WSU’s all-time career lists, ranking 4th in block assists (360), 4th in total blocks (419), 6th in solo blocks (59). Greeny also excelled in the classroom where she was WSU Athlete of the Year in 1998-99. She was a Pac-10 Volleyball All-Academic selection three times. Greeny received her bachelor’s degree in education from WSU in 1999. After her college playing career ended, Greeny knew she wanted to coach. Greeny spent the next 4 ½ years on Cindy Frederick’s bench with the WSU volleyball coaching staff. Greeny’s been involved in 10 of the 14 seasons that WSU Cougar Volleyball has qualified for the postseason. Greeny left WSU to become the Head Volleyball Coach at Pullman High School for three seasons. Then Greeny began her collegiate head coaching career at Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho from 2007-2010 where she went an incredible 112-24 in that time span, turning the Warriors into one of the premier NAIA teams. After her success at Lewis-Clark State, in March 2011, Greeny became the 12th coach in the history of the Cougars Volleyball history, Greeny just completed her 9thyear as the Head Cougar and the best is yet to come for the Coug’s under Greeny’s leadership. Greeny and her husband, Burdette, her assistant at WSU, have two daughters Lauren and Leah. She is a member of the Pullman Regional Hospital Foundation. Jen and Burdette were honored with a City of Pullman Chamber of Commerce Walk of Fame plaque in 2015; the 25th plaque in the Famous Sports Figures category which honors those who have a positive impact beyond Pullman High School or Washington State University.…

The Knights are the 2019 State 1A football champions, their 4th football title in the last 5 years. Allred took over the program in 1999 from Bob Nielsen and he has taken the program to unprecedented heights. Under Allred: · The Knights have made the playoff for 20 straight years. · Have won nine state 1A titles and have been the runners-up twice. · Allred’s won-loss record is 229-27. · Since 2015, the Knights are 18-1 in post-season play.…

The son of a dairy farmer, De Boer fell in love with the game of basketball early in his childhood. The youngest of five children, Roger’s parents spent many first weeks of March at the UPS Fieldhouse in Tacoma watching the Class A basketball tournament. Coach De Boer attended Lynden Christian High School. His senior year he played point guard and led his team to the 1982 State 1A Basketball title. After high school, De Boer spent a year at Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa before transferring to Seattle Pacific University. He got his first coaching job assisting the girl’s program at Forest Ridge High School. De Boer then spent five years assisting Mike Downs at Bellevue Christian, then at the age of 24, got his first head coaching gig at Seattle Christian High School. In 1998, his team finished 2nd to Chelan and then in 2000, defeated Toutle Lake to win their first state basketball title. In 2001-2003, De Boer’s squad played in the state championship games, finishing runners-up. After 19 years at the helm, De Boer stepped away to focus on family and his new business Cloud 9 Sports. De Boer’s record at Seattle Christian was 322-140. De Boer’s absence from the sidelines was short-lived as in 2008 he returned to the bench, assisting Curt De Haan and the following year, took the Head Boys job at Lynden Christian. In 11 seasons at LC, De Boer was 228-67, with 9 state tournament appearances, state titles in 2012 and 2018 and as a 6-seed in the 2020 State 1A Basketball Tournament had a 2ndplace finish, losing in OT to King’s. De Boer is also a 2016 inductee into the WIBCA Hall-of-Fame. We talk about the championships and wins, but I think what is more impressive is that he has had the opportunity to make a difference in his player’s lives through basketball and his faith. His goal is always to help young men not only become better basketball players but better people. Coach and his wife Jill have three children enrolled at LC and his son Jaden was the starting point guard on last year’s squad, will be a senior, and will be one of the top PG’s in the state.…
Today on the podcast we are happy to have the new Head Girls Basketball Coach of the Elma Eagles Brandi Thomas with us. Thomas replaces long-time coach Lisa Johnson, who has retired from coaching after 19 seasons and a 301-152 career record. Thomas is a 2010 graduate of Elma High School and played for Johnson throughout her high school basketball career. Thomas scored 1,470 points and grabbed 1,100 rebounds in her high school career. She also was a 2-time Evergreen 2A Conference MVP. While at Elma, Thomas played soccer, volleyball, basketball, and track while with the Eagles. Thomas was the 2-time Class 2A State Triple Jump champion. After high school, Thomas continued her basketball playing career at Washington State University under coach June Daugherty. One of the biggest highlights of her collegiate career was that as a senior leader, she helped the Cougars to postseason play, their first in 15 years. After college, Thomas played semi-professionally in Spain for one season before coming back to the states. Her coaching career began by volunteering at Olympia High School, then became the Head Girls Basketball Coach at Tenino High School. Her 3-year record with the Beavers was 33-28. She also was the jumps coach for the Tenino track program. She taught elementary and high school PE at Tenino Thomas spent last season as the Varsity Assistant Girls Coach at Elma, before taking the head job this spring.…
Today on the podcast, we have one of my favorite coaches on here today, Former Girls Basketball Coach at Granger High School Andy Affholter. In 21 years as a head coach between Mabton and Granger, Affholter was 412-126. In his rookie season with Mabton, he guided them to a 22-win season and a state trophy. Affholter took Mabton to state 4 more times before stepping away to watch his own kids play at Zillah. When he decided to get back into the coaching game, he stayed small school and took the girls basketball job at Granger High School, where his success with that program was second to none. Affholter led the Granger girls to 9 state tournament trophies in 10 years, including back-to-back state championship games in 2009-2010. There is no doubt that Affholter could have left for bigger schools, but continued at the small schools because it was always a desire for Coach Affholter to coach at a small school. The Toppenish grad loved the State B tournament in Spokane. Coach hasn’t retired from coaching just yet. He still has grandsons he is coaching so he will still be at it for quite a while……
Chatting with one of the Queen's of "B" girls basketball, Manson's Katie Davis-Smith. Her 1998 State "B" Tournament was one for the history books...Davis-Smith broke several state-records including: Scoring 50 pts in a game vs Wahkiakum, Scoring 138 points in 4 games in the 1998 tournament, Making 18 free throws in a single contest vs Wahkuiaum Had 59 rebounds in the tournament (14.8 rpg average) Katie was a 3-sport star at Manson, playing volleyball and basketball and softball. Davis-Smith led Manson to a 7th place finish in volleyball her senior year. After High School, she played at St Mary’s College from 1998-2003. She red-shirted her freshman year after tearing her ACL for the second time. Recovering from that injury, Davis helped the Gaels to 2 NCAA tournaments and 2 WNIT tournaments. Davis-Smith was an All-WCC All-Academic and WCC All-League Selection. She graduated with a BS in Economics and Business Administration and received her MBA in 2004 also from St Mary’s. Katie is married to Kyle Smith, the current Men’s Basketball Coach at Washington State University, and have three sons…Rocco, Bo, and Luke.…
