On the Season 2 debut of Lost Cultures: Living Legacies , we travel to Bermuda, an Atlantic island whose history spans centuries and continents. Once uninhabited, Bermuda became a vital stop in transatlantic trade, a maritime stronghold, and a cultural crossroads shaped by African, European, Caribbean, and Native American influences. Guests Dr. Kristy Warren and Dr. Edward Harris trace its transformation from an uninhabited island to a strategic outpost shaped by shipwrecks, colonization, the transatlantic slave trade, and the rise and fall of empires. Plus, former Director of Tourism Gary Phillips shares the story of the Gombey tradition, a vibrant performance art rooted in resistance, migration, and cultural fusion. Together, they reveal how Bermuda’s layered past continues to shape its people, culture, and identity today. In this episode, Kyle and Jeremy interview Kobe Boyce. Kobe played D1 college football for the Texas Longhorns but chose to step away from football because of his mental health and he shared his decision with this tweet: "For a few years now I have been battling depression and I let all of my emotions build up and it wasn't a food feeling. I used to be scared of discussing this and kept it all to myself and anyone who is going through the same thing please talk to someone. You are not alone. Everyone is struggling with something in life especially in these times. Take care of yourself and your mental health because you won't be able to operate in anything you do if your head is not in the right place. That's where I felt I was at and I am going to be taking a step away from football and work on myself. I would like to thank all my teammates, coaches, friends, and family of course for being with me on this journey. It wasn't what I expected but I definitely learned a lot about myself and learned some valuable life lessons in this time. I will continue as a student at the University of Texas and will continue on the journey of getting my degree. This decision wasn't easy to make but I feel like it was much needed. I appreciate the fans and all the support that you have shown me in the years from a recruit to now. I will always be a Longhorn and I hope you guys can bring back a Big 12 Championship and a Natty. In this episode, we interviewed bestselling author, Kartikeya Ladha. We focused this conversation on something Kartikeya talks about often, the need to go inwards and connect with our elements to deeply understand who we are. He also gives us some advice on what we can do to being this journey. This is something Kartikeya believes is critical, but also something that humans are missing right now. Surrendering and being with the present moment are two of the most important things we can do to connect inwards and flow in our lives. We go into the necessary challenge of questioning our own beliefs, ideas, and thoughts as another way to become closer to humanity: we can observe these questions and judgements, and then move on. Louisa dives into what she believes are the 4 pillars of high performance: mindset, physiology, nutrition, and spirituality. This leads into some advice on an optimal morning routine and what we should do for the first 12 minutes of our day. Louisa does an exercise to show us how our Reticular Activating System (RAS) functions and how it relates to self-love. Through this, she explains how we can change our mentality to reinforce our beliefs in ourselves. We talk about the challenges and moments of gratitude that the pandemic is going bring, including Covid PTSD and small moments of human contact. Louisa ends with an intriguing analogy for our consciousness in relation to our mind and brain. Enjoy! We brought on the creators of the book Anxious Little Pishy , Brittany Joseph (author) and Chris Joseph (illustrator). The book has been showing our children that anxiety is something that we all feel, and that it’s okay to talk about it. It is the perfect way to introduce the subject and open the discussion around anxiety, without worrying if broaching the subject will provoke more worry! Brittany Joseph writes this tale from a sincere and authentic point of view. As a child and to this very day, our author has battled with anxiety. She understands how isolated a child with anxiety can feel. Brittany has offered this book to the world in hopes that her anecdote will help children and adults understand the struggle of children with mental health issues.Brittany and Chris (a brother sister duo) have been on NBC to speak about their book, and multiple schools, museums, podcasts and libraries. The book has become a staple in any classroom it has found, as well as a bedtime favorite. For siblings of anxious children, Little Pishy can help us build compassion for our our brothers, sisters, and friends with anxiety. Join us, and watch, as Little Pishy shows us all how to swim away from anxiety. The book is incredible and so is the conversation we had with Brittany and Chris. Kyle's review of the book after reading it to his kids: "They loved it. I felt like the book was about me haha. I love how it very similarly explains what anxiety is but in a direct way. My oldest, who is 6, said "Is that what I have when I worry about mommy not coming home?" (At the time, my wife was at the hospital most nights due to her mother's poor health) For her to get even the slightest grasp on that at 6 years old was great. Then we talked about different things you can do when you feel like that." Anna Liljenwall coaches women seeking to learn how to trust themselves after struggling with mental health, trauma, and addiction. This week we brought on a special guest to talk about therapy and how it can be helpful for anxiety, depression, grief, and more. Erin has over 23 years of experience in the social work and mental health field and specializes in providing therapy to people dealing with anxiety (including panic disorder, social anxiety, and phobias), trauma, and grief. A little over a year ago, Erin chose to set up her therapy practice 100% online so she could help people that otherwise would never go through with therapy due to stigma, lack of time/transportation, access, or cost. Her approach is eclectic and mostly uses mindfulness-based interventions including breathing and Grounding Exercises, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and some body-based/somatic techniques. Erin also provides a lot of psychoeducation around anxiety triggers and causes and specific exercises to address them (usually involving exposure and practice in session). Erin offers a free phone consultation to make sure she can either help you or get you connected with a therapist who can. She is licensed in the State of Washington and can only serve residents of that state at this time, however, there are some other countries where she is able to serve people online as well. You can book a consultation directly through her website at fearlesshealingtherapy.com .
