The Montreal podcast that asks wrestling promoter and professional improv star James McGee: “What question do you hate being asked?” – That question asked as always by our very own Inés Anaya back in our last episode. James McGee lives a life on the fringe man. A double life full of moonsaults, yes-ands, powerbombs and audience suggestions. James McGee is the epicentre of improvisational artistry taking his talents to the squared circle and the improv stage with equal measures of grace and wit. James joins Walter J. Lyng and I at the back of Grumpy’s Bar to talk about this past weekend’s WrestleMania, Jake the Snake Roberts, Survivor Series, Sami Zayn’s comedy and much, much more! If wrestling is your thing you can catch the next BATTLEWAR this Sunday at Foufounes Electriques (and you should probably follow the BATTLEWAR Facebook page as well to keep tabs on their upcoming events). If improv is more your style you should check out Mile End Improv where James performs and teaches. With all that out of the way you should sit back, relax and Go Plug Yourself. We’ve had James on this show a bunch and you should probably do yourself a favour and dig into the archives to listen to all the episodes going all the way back to 2014 . This is his 7th time on the show! Credit Where Credit is Due As always, a big thank you to the providers of our theme song: Leighland Beckman and Aural Turpitude ! The Montreal podcast that asks Inés Anaya: “What is the best advice you’ve ever received, and who gave it to you?” That question asked by the one and only Dave Kaufman back in episode 313 . It’s been a few long months since Inés Anaya has graced the Go Plug Yourself airwaves so we thought it was high time she came back on the podcast to let us know how she was doing. So we dipped into the Go Plug Yourself slush fund to get Inés back to Montreal exclusively to record this podcast and catch up. We talk about movies, underground fires, Russian oligarchs and Inés’ future forays into the behind-the-scenes movie magic world of special effects and props – all at the back of the legendary Grumpy’s Bar on Bishop Street. Walter J. Lyng and Troy Stark join me for this episode so it’s time to kick back, relax and Go Plug Yourself with Inés Anaya. Enjoy the show! Inés Anaya never stops finding ways to be funny: writing for Hindwing Press and The Beaverton, running shows like Stand Up Story Slam and getting on the mic at comedy shows all over the city when it is legally possible to do so. The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks Montreal writer, broadcaster and political commentator Dave Kaufman: What is the one live performance that you would willingly see every time you went out over and over again? That question was asked by Sarah Warren in our last episode which you should also totally check out . A couple of weeks ago we shared an episode from a few years ago that we did with Dave Kaufman – Dave’s a political expert and has recently been turning his attention to writing about politics with a few recent articles over at The Progressive Magazine . In case you haven’t noticed – it’s kind of a spicy time politically these days with the Trump presidency down South and the Canadian election just a few weeks away. So it was high time that we had Dave Kaufman back on the show proper. It’s not all doom and gloom – we talk about music, baseball and if we’re being totally honest – quite a bit of doom and gloom. The rise of fascism kind of does that, doesn’t it? We hope you enjoy the show anyways and hopefully it provides a little clarity of what’s going in the world. It was cathartic for Chris and I at least. Be sure to follow Dave over on BlueSky and friendly reminder that you should probably be on BlueSky. Enjoy the show! The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks comedian Sarah Warren: “What was the one meal you ate that made you want to die (in a good way)?” That question asked, as always, by Marc-Anthony Senigoga back in episode 311 . Sarah Warren’s mom passed away, so she did what we all do: go through your dead mom’s cookbook and make a bunch of the recipes with other comedians. Grief can be funny like that. Walter J. Lyng and Troy Stark join me for this episode with Sarah Warren and we talk about grief, moms, recipes, handwriting, music and how Troy lived down the street from one of the guys from 54-40. Listen, I had no idea who 54-40 was until I found out they were the guys who did “Ocean Pearl”, “I Go Blind” AND “One Day In Your Life.” All of those songs are very familiar to me but until we recorded this episode I would have never been able to tell you that they were by the same band and that band was called 54-40. You learn something new every day on Go Plug Yourself. If you want to check out Sarah Warren on “My Dead Mom’s Cookbook” you can do so on Instagram , YouTube and TikTok and if you like what you see than you should 100% support her over on her GoFundMe where she’s currently raising money to keep the showing going. You can also follow Sarah directly on Instagram @sarahisfamous . Sit back and enjoy the show and hey… call your mom. So this week our intended guest AND our co-host were feeling under the weather so as we do we are digging into our archives to share one of our favorite episodes – we’re going back to November 2020 to our episode that we recorded with Dave Kaufman – 2020 seems almost quaint these days doesn’t it? We spent the episode talking about the political landscape at the time and the Tragically Hip, man – we should get Dave back on the show to make sense of everything going on right now shouldn’t we? Anyways – we’ll be back in two weeks with a brand new guest to get back to our regularly scheduled programming. Go Plug Yourself! Originally posted on November 12, 2020: The Montreal podcast that asks CJAD’s Dave Kaufman: What is the “OMG” moment of your life? (As asked by Jim and Austin Beauchamp of Cunninghams Pub ). We know just what you wanted this week. You wanted an extra long episode of Go Plug Yourself to take your mind off of the craziness of politics. Well, we half delivered. This is an extra long episode of the show but it is almost exclusively about politics, that said, it all wraps up with one of the all-time great 5 Question segments we’ve ever had. Dave Kaufman is our guest this week who was gracious enough to come on the show to talk about the American election, American politics and a little bit about the Tragically Hip. Be sure to follow Dave on Instagram @davekaufman1 . Oh, and you might want to listen to him on CJAD where he pops up all over the place to talk politics, sports, trivia and more. Enjoy the show! The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks Vance Michel: “What are three things that you’re grateful for today?” That question was asked by Eva Alexopoulos back in episode 309. If Go Plug Yourself had the budget of Saturday Night Live maybe we would invest in a 5 Timer jacket. Vance Michel probably would’ve gotten that jacket a while ago since he’s been a guest several times, been a part of multiple New Year’s Shit Shows and has jumped on in the background of a bunch of episodes too. Well guess what? Vance Michel is back again! If you’re listening to this on January 30th you should head out to IMPROV MONTREAL in Saint-Henri for “ That Colored Comedy Show ” for an amazing lineup that features Vance Michel, Goofy Welldone, Renzel Dashington, Claudine Napoleon, Peter Bowen. It’s where jokes meet the beats from the streets – it’s a hip-hop comedy event! Troy Stark and Walter J. Lyng are on the mic for this one with myself and Vance Michel – we talk about celebrity crushes, pitch a CBC pilot where Vance is a cop in P.E.I. and figure out how we’re all celebrating Black History Month. You can also catch Vance Michel this Sunday, February 2nd at the Comedy Nest as part of the 12th edition of the Underground Comedy Railroad Show . Enjoy the podcast – go see some comedy! The Montreal podcast that asks founder of Kickback Comedy Eva Alexopoulos “What is something that you’ve forgiven yourself for?” returns for episode 309. That question was the final question of 2024 asked by Christopher Curtis of therover.ca back in episode 308 . That’s right, it’s another brand new episode of the Go Plug Yourself podcast. This week we are proud to sit down with none other than Eva Alexopoulos. You may know Eva from the Kickback Comedy parties – either the amazing BYOB pop up parties or the bi-weekly events at Satay Brothers in Saint Henri. Or you might just have seen her and the Kickback crew live at the massive outdoor stage at the revival of Just for Laughs last summer at Quartier des Spectacles. Kickback has one of their famous BYOB parties this Saturday night January 18th – check out the kickbackcomedyparty on Instagram for details on that event. It’s time once again for that most hallowed Montreal podcasting holiday tradition: The Go Plug Yourself Sh!t Show! As we do every year we gather up the extended Go Plug Yourself family, have a few drinks and turn our unforgiving gaze back upon the year that was. This year it was Walter J. Lyng, Chris Venditto, Lawrence Corber, Sarah and myself (with a brief guest appearance by Vance Michel) upstairs at Hurley’s (aka the home of the World’s Smallest Comedy Night ) to talk about shellfish, who had a good year and who had a bad year (copyright of one Christopher Venditto) and make a few New Year’s resolutions for good measure. The Montreal podcast that asks the founder of therover.ca Christopher Curtis: “Who was the artist that got you into the particular art form that you love?” – that question asked by Jared Wilder back in episode 307. I think it’s no surprise that both Sarah and I are pretty big fans of investigative journalism in one form or another. From my college years poring over exposés in VICE to our more recent obsessions with deep-dive audio investigations we’ve been avid supporters of journalism that uncovers hard to-tell (and sometimes hard to read) stories and contextualizes them in meaningful ways. All that to say – we’ve been fans of The Rover for some time now and we’re thrilled to finally have Christopher Curtis on the show. If you’re not familiar The Rover is a Montreal based investigative journalism project that focuses on Montreal and Quebec but also turns towards Canada and the rest of the world from time to time. Honestly, they do some of the best investigative journalism you’ll read on the internet and the fact that it is local and mostly focuses on Montreal and Quebec is a nice bonus if you’re the average Go Plug Yourself listener. Anyways, it’s fundraising time for The Rover so I urge you to head over to therover.ca , read a few articles and if you like what you’re reading consider hitting that “ Support Us ” button in the top right corner of the page if you’ve got the means. At the time of writing they’re about 50% of their way to their $10,000 goal for this year. Anyhow – Chris joins Sarah and I to talk about the rover, the state of Canadian politics and so much more. Enjoy the show! Oh and by the way – the defunct journalism website that Sarah and I could not remember the name of was The Correspondent – which sadly stopped publishing in January 0f 2021 . The Montreal podcast that asks New York comedian Jared Wilder: “Which of your friend’s parents did you want to hook up with?” returns for another chaotic freewheeling round of podcasting gold. That question asked of course by none other than the Hardcore Hero – The Green Phantom back in episode 306 (the views and opinions of The Green Phantom do not represent those of this podcast or its hosts). So breaking slightly from tradition I must first admit that Jared Wilder is not from Montreal. However, he co-hosts a football show over on YouTube called “ In the Trenches ” with our very own Chris Venditto so we’re going to consider him an honorary Montrealer for the purposes of this show. Jared Wilder has been all over the place in New York City and Los Angeles, performing with The Groundlings and Second City and having studied and performed at some of New York’s finest acting schools. *cough cough Stella Adler cough cough* Obviously with a classy guest like that we spend a bunch of time talking about pro-wrestling and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. That’s how we roll! You should definitely check out “ In the Trenches ” to support our boy Venditto and Jared and you can keep up to date with Jared on Instagram and Facebook too. Go Plug Yourself! The Montreal podcast that asks The Green Phantom (Hardcore Hero, Canadian Table Breaker, Wrestling Legend): Did you ever shoplift as a kid? That question asked by Coolopolis Montreal’s Kristian Gravenor back in episode 304 . It’s been a few years since we’ve had Green Phantom (or “Phantom” to his friends) on the show but the door is always open for him to return. It has to be, otherwise he will just kick it down. As always this episode is a must if you’re an indie wrestling fan. Green Phantom shoots on greedy promoters, shares stories about wrestling legends and gives us a run-down of his tour of wrestling in Japan! He teamed up with Violent J from the Insane Clown Posse! Walter J. Lyng returns again to co-host and as tends to happen Troy Stark comes along for the ride. You can catch The Green Phantom in wrestling action next month celebrating his own very special, very violent holiday tradition: The Hardcore Holidaze Match! That will be a part of “Seasons Beatings” on December 21st at MTELUS presented by the IWS. Check out the event page on Facebook and get your tickets here . Also, if you’re a fan of trivia: Green Phantom hosts trivia night at Brutopia every Monday – sometimes you get to meet his dog! A true legend of Montreal. Don’t call it a comeback! Loyal Go Plug Yourself listeners have noted that we haven’t had Chris Venditto on the show in a couple of months. He’s been on our Long Term Injured Reserve list for the last few months while he took care of a few things but guess what? Chris Venditto is back, baby! Tell your friends ( and book him )! In all seriousness it was extremely special for me to be able to have Chris back with us at the back of Grumpy’s and I thought we should celebrate his return by not having a “usual” guest and instead getting Walter J. Lyng and Troy Stark to come out and just have a free-form roundtable discussion about whatever nonsense happens to come to mind. It was great. If it’s not for you – well, I dunno, listen to it anyways and leave a 5-star review on whatever platform you listen on. What do you want me to say? You should be hearing more from Chris Venditto on this very podcast and you should also being seeing more of Chris around town lighting up microphones as one of this city’s finest comedians. The Montreal podcast that asks journalist, author and creator of “Coolopolis Montreal” Kristian Gravenor: What is your most unexpected fear? That question asked by Hellgirl Productions (Emelia Hellman & Nancy Webb) back in GPYS 303 . It’s pretty well documented throughout over 300 episodes of this podcast that I love getting into some of the strange and wonderful stories of Montreal’s past. So it was with great excitement that we booked Kristian Gravenor from the popular “Coolopolis Montreal” TikTok channel for the show. Kristian (and Coolopolis by extension) is a veritable treasure trove of Montreal history. From the seedy side of things like corrupt mayors and violent gangsters to the almost whimsical like Montreal’s “Bus to Nowhere” we could have easily spent hours at the back of Grumpy’s just getting into the historical curiosities of our great city. None other than Walter J. Lyng joins me as co-host for this episode and we talk about Montreal history, Kristian’s work as a journalist for the Montreal Mirror and how to flip an island for fun and profit and much, much more. So sit back, relax, enjoy the show and Go Plug Yourself. You can pick up Kristian’s book “Montreal: 375 Tales of Eating, Drinking, Living and Loving” in either physical or Kindle editions . As occasionally happens when you’ve been podcasting for over a decade – sometimes a guest drops off the face of the planet (or the island of Montreal) and you’re left on a Wednesday night before a long weekend without a new episode of Go Plug Yourself. Fortunately though we’ve got over 300 episodes in our back catalogue that we can dig up and re-share with you. So we’re setting the clock back to 2018 for our 150th episode which was a live recording at the legendary Mainline Theater! Enjoy! From the original post: Here it is, the episode you’ve all been waiting for! Montreal’s longest running English language podcast is celebrating its 150th episode in style! Recorded live at Mainline Theatre on St-Laurent Boulevard, Walter and I welcomed a parade of some of the most talented Montrealers ever to grace a single episode of a podcast! Joining us for the whole episode is none other than our resident musically talented friend (and provider of our theme song) Leighland Beckman ! The first guest on our show is none other than our French language podcast counterpart Yannick Belzil from 3 Bières ! Then we’re joined by the Hardcore Hero himself, The Green Phantom ! Finally, as he does for many of our milestone episodes, Television’s Mike Paterson joins us as well! Hey! Did you know you can subscribe to just Go Plug Yourself on iTunes? It’s true. Subscribe now. Check out Yannick Belzil’s podcast “Les voyeurs de vues” Follow Green Phantom on Facebook and keep an eye on IWS Hardcore for his no doubt triumphant comeback in the coming months. Mike Paterson is the busiest man on the planet, he’s on TV twice a day! Check out Toon Marty on Teletoon every day at 5 playing Burnie. And he’s on Raven’s Quest every day on TVO! He’s the Raven! The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks Emelia Hellman & Nancy Webb of Hellgirl Productions: What compliment would you give yourself? That question asked by Abby Stonehouse and Alo Azimov back in episode 302 . It’s no secret that we love Fantasia here at 9to5.cc – we do a whole show about it – so imagine our excitement when Inés pitched the idea of having Emelia and Nancy from Hellgirl Productions on the show to talk (in part) about their short film “Bangs” that premiered at this year’s festival! Did we mention it features Andi McQueen who is also the best? We talk about “Bangs”, making movies, our biggest fears and so much more. Emelia and Nancy will be launching a podcast very soon that is literally just about people’s biggest fears so – stay tuned for that. How will you stay tuned? Well – you should probably give them a follow on Instagram for now: @hellgirlproductions and check in on their respective websites as well. Those are probably the best ways to see “Bangs” when it becomes possible to do so (maybe you will be lucky and they’ll be screening the film in your hometown!): Nancy’s website – https://www.nancywebb.lol/ Emelia’s website – https://emeliahellman.com/ Meanwhile if you want to talk about one the films we talked about “Becca” you can watch that right now (which also features Andi!). More info about some of the other films we mention can be found below: Death Trip, Messy Legend – James Watts, Kelly Kay Hurcomb Don’t Text Back , The Rebrand – True Sweetheart Films (Kaye Adelaide, Mariel Sharp) Anyways – listen to this podcast and track down these films! The Montreal arts and entertainment podcast that asks Abby Stonehouse and Alo Azimov of Ladyfest: What is a quote that inspires you? That question asked by Sloan Kooshan and Dawn McSweeney back in episode 301 . First of all, once again I need to mention that we recorded this episode remotely. So apologies if the audio levels are a little all over the place. Ladyfest is returning to Montreal once again in 2024 and once again there is almost an entire week of Ladyfestivities for you to enjoy! Abby Stonehouse and Alo Azimov join Walter and I to talk about all things Ladyfest, tornadoes and finding your audience. For more information about the entire Ladyfest lineup do yourself a favour and check out Ladyfest.ca . Abby Stonehouse does a million things around town and online (like the House of Stone Podcast ) and is currently one of the head ladies of Ladyfest. Alo Azimov performs and produces all over Montreal as well and has been a part of Ladyfest since the very start. Both Abby and Alo are Ladyfest and comedy veterans and are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to all the shows going down next week. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show and be sure to check out Ladyfest 2024! Go Plug Ladyfest everyone! On this week’s episode Sarah and I are talking to Sloan Kooshan and Dawn McSweeney about the upcoming SWANA Comedy Show at La Poubelle Magnifique on August 25th at 8 pm. This edition of the SWANA Comedy Show is more than just comedy—it’s a fundraiser for Palestine. All proceeds will go towards The Ghassan Abu Sittah Children’s Fund, an organization dedicated to providing critical medical attention to the children of Gaza. The Montreal podcast that would win every single “I Quit” match because we’ve been around for 13 years and we’re not going anywhere baby! Look, I’m fully aware that this isn’t actually episode 300 – that milestone quietly came and went probably sometime back in 2023. But we didn’t put a number on every episode of “Go Quarantine Yourself” during the pandemic, we don’t put numbers on the Shit Shows for the most part and whenever we just catch up with the hosts we don’t usually attach an official number to those episodes either. So whatever man – it counts! 300 more! We recorded this one live (pal) as a part of the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival that has been running for the past week and a half and it was a blast. We had friend of the show Alex Rose come on to talk a little about the Fantasia Festival as it enters it’s final weekend and Walter J. Lyng and Lawrence Corber joined me for all the fun at Hurley’s. Important Podcast News: We updated the questions for 5 Questions! Finally! That means that starting in episode 301 we’ll have a new set of questions to bother our guests with at the end of each episode! Enjoy the show! Hey, did you know that Go Plug Yourself 300 is happening LIVE as part of the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival on July 22nd at 6 pm at Hurleys ? Well guess what? It is. One of more than 500 shows that will be happening over the course of ten days (July 21st to July 31st) hosted by the absolute maniacs behind Montreal’s beloved “World’s Smallest Comedy Night” each and every week. So guess what? We have three of those wonderful maniacs on the show once again this week to talk about Anne of Green Gables, Prince Edward Island, manspreading and probably a million other things that I’m not remembering right now. There’s a whole part that I don’t even know about where I get up to go get more drinks and Walter is left to his own devices with Troy and Vance. That’s audio that I am about to publish and I have no idea what it might be! Walter said I might have to remove it! But I didn’t! That’s the kind of show we run here and that’s the kind of raw unfiltered nonsense you’ll be in for if you come down to Hurley’s on Monday. In the meantime, sit back, relax and enjoy this show and head to troystark.net for more info and tickets to the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival (including episode 300 of this very show!) Osheaga 2024 is 29 days away! Our Unofficial Osheaga Podcast is back for 2024! It’s time that we talk to… wait, let me get this straight… we’re talking to evenko? That’s right! Daniel Glick and Evelyne Côté from evenko were kind enough to join Sarah and I at the back of Grumpy’s Bar on Bishop Street to talk about this year’s edition of Oseheaga. Daniel Glick and Evelyne Côté have both been working for evenko for a long, long time so we talk about the earliest editions of Osheaga, ÎleSoniq (which is Evelyne’s baby) and so much more. Both Evelyne and Daniel have been a part of so much music history here in Montreal that it was truly a privilege to sit down and have a few beers with them to talk about all things Osheaga. Evelyne and Daniel share some of their favorite concerts from the past and share a few “can’t miss” acts from Osheaga 2024. So sit back, relax and enjoy the show and obviously we want to see you at Osheaga in a few weeks! Osheaga runs from August 2nd to August 4th at Parc Jean Drapeau. Listen up you beautiful babies – this podcast has always been adjacent to one of Montreal’s greatest comedy nights “The World’s Smallest Comedy Night” live each week from Hurley’s in the heart of downtown Montreal. So much so that this very real news article links the foundation of the “World’s Smallest Comedy Night” right back to a recording of this very podcast some 6 years ago. So it stands to reason that Go Plug Yourself is one of the first places you are hearing about the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival which will be taking place next month from July 21st to the 31st mostly at Hurley’s Irish Pub on Crescent Street. Walter J. Lyng and Troy Stark came to the back of Grumpy’s to talk all about their sales jobs and also the second edition of The World’s Smallest Comedy Festival. This is doubly exciting for Go Plug Yourself because guess what? We will be recording Go Plug Yourself 300 LIVE on July 22nd at 6 pm from Hurley’s as part of the festival! Say whaaaaat!? I’ll say it again. Go Plug Yourself 300 will be LIVE at The World’s Smallest Comedy Festival – it will be our first live episode in over 4 years! That’s crazy! There’s plenty of other (realistically better) comedy options for you to enjoy for all 10 days of the festival as well so you should keep tabs on troystark.net for the full lineup. So sit back, relax, listen to this podcast and keep an eye out for more announcements regarding the true spirit of comedy in Montreal. Enjoy the show! The Montreal podcast that asks the multi-talented Iris Bahr: “What are you doing to cope with climate anxiety?” That question asked by Montreal Fringe Executive and Artistic Director Amy Blackmore and Montreal Fringe Artistic Producer Kenny Streule in episode 296. When I was telling people that we were going to be having Iris Bahr on the show, it only took mentioning “the chairlift scene” from Curb Your Enthusiasm to illicit an immediate reaction. Add the fact that Iris Bahr has published multiple books, performed in multiple films and television shows (including one of my favorites ‘Hacks’), performs stand-up, one woman shows, podcasts… well let’s just say that it can honestly be a little daunting as someone who by and large does just one thing. Chris Venditto steps up to co-host this one (in the middle of a thunderstorm) and we talk about performing, doing comedy, mean old ladies and more. Iris Bahr’s one-woman show “Stories from the Brink – My Festive Near Death Adventures” comes to this year’s edition of the Montreal Fringe Festival from June 8th to 16th. Tickets and info here . That question asked by our previous guest Boum (the comic book artist and creator of The Jellyfish ) back in episode 295 . We’ve spoken a lot on this show about the loss of one our city’s wonderful festivals, but now it’s time to celebrate one of the festivals that we can still be proud of: The Montreal Fringe Festival. Longtime listeners of the show know that I’ve been a fan of the Montreal Fringe Festival since high-school and “since high-school” has gotten progressively further and further away (somewhere to the tune of 24 years ago but who’s counting?). It’s one of Sarah’s and my favourite festivals and we love to kick summer off with the joy of independent theatre that ranges from improv to clowns to dance to puppets and so much more. And guess what? We talk about all that stuff with none other than Amy Blackmore and Kenny Streule who, as far as I understand it, are Montreal Fringe Overlords. We talk about some of our favourite shows from Fringes gone by and look ahead to some of the shows that might catch our attention this year. So sit back, relax, and get ready to Fringe! Every now and then Chris Venditto and I like to take an episode to catch up and talk mostly about the Montreal Canadiens and wrestling. What a better way to kick off Cowboy Summer than talking about hockey? Well this episode is that but also includes us branching out into talking about the Montreal PWHL team and Chris shares his thoughts on the absence of the Just for Laughs festival this summer in Montreal now that we’re nearly two months removed from the news and he has had a little more time to ruminate. Chris has declared the summer of 2024 to be “Cowboy Summer” (I may be paraphrasing) but when Beyoncé has released a country album and apparently everyone is listening to “A Bar Song” by Shaboozey it’s hard to deny that he might be on to something. I actually wonder if country music festivals will do better this year than the “normal” music festivals. I guess we’ll have to wait and see. So if you haven’t seen Chris lately, this is your perfect chance to catch up with Venditto while listening to a conversation where you’re not allowed to say anything- aka a podcast! Enjoy! The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks Boum (the comic book artist and creator of The Jellyfish ): What is something that you’re really good at that nobody knows about? That question asked by our previous guest Raquel Maestre back in episode 294 . Anyone who listens to us over on 9ES knows that I’m a huge fan of comic books. I have read a lot of comics in my time from mainstream comics to small indie zines. So it’s with at least some degree of authority that I can tell you that “The Jellyfish” by Boum is one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time. Sarah (who is co-hosting this episode) doesn’t read nearly as many comics as I do but she is also sometimes harder to please – so it’s a double recommendation that Sarah enjoyed “The Jellyfish” so much that she wants to re-read it again after blasting through the entire thing in a single sitting. We were extremely lucky to sit down with Boum at the back of our usual haunt Grumpy’s to talk about “The Jellyfish”, comic books, the Quebec health care system, animation and eyesight. The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks comedian and producer Raquel Maestre: “What’s something you can’t do that you that you wish you could?” That question asked as always by Dan Carin back in episode 293 . When we last spoke to Raquel Maestre on the show back in episode 261 she was still relatively new to the comedy scene. Fast forward to 2024 and she’s producing multiple hit comedy shows like “A Very Pretentious Comedy Show” (which is about to go on hiatus so be sure to check out the next edition this Sunday March 31st at Café La Ligne Verte ) along with the weekly Poly Mic at Notre Dame de Quilles on Beaubien. But that’s not all! I mentioned that “A Very Pretentious Comedy Show” would be going on hiatus but here’s the exciting part where I tell you why: Raquel Maestre is bringing a one-woman show to this year’s Montreal Fringe Festival! *applause break* Anyhow, she’s got plenty to plug and that’s the name of the show so obviously we spend time talking about obscure video games like Victoria 3 and Basketball Manager – all the fun of spreadsheets in a video game! We also get introduced to a Spanish Sesame Street character named Espinete ! And Walter J. Lyng is co-hosting! So sit back and relax (even if you’re on your bicycle) and enjoy episode 294 of Go Plug Yourself with Raquel Maestre! Enjoy the show! The Montreal arts and entertainment podcast that asks Montreal stand-up and sketch comedian Daniel Carin: Who is the teacher/mentor that influenced you the most? That question asked by the awesome punk rockers Taxi Girls back in episode 292 . Daniel Carin joins Lawrence Corber and I to talk about the deep meaningful things in life. Things like wrestling, the cancellation of the Just for Laughs festival and a religious educator that told a young Daniel Carin “You’re funny – and not just for a kid.” A moment that changed his life forever. If you haven’t already, you should do yourself a favour and get yourself a ticket or two (or three) to “ An Evening with Ladies & Gentlemen ” coming up April 2nd at Theatre Saint Catherine. Ladies & Gentlemen are an award winning sketch comedy troupe consisting of actor/comedian/bon-vivant and playboy Chris Sandiford (“What We Do In The Shadows” / “God’s Favourite Idiot”) and writer/comedian/mole person Daniel Carin (“N/A” / “TBD”) While you’re at it you can also subscribe to Daniel Carin’s easy-listening radio show “ Advice by the Fireplace ” if you find yourself thinking “boy – that Keith is just like WAY too much sometimes.” Anyways, sit back, relax and enjoy the show and decide for yourself whether or not we are witnessing the death of comedy in the fair city of Montreal. Lawrence Corber also produces some shows you may have heard of (you should probably check out the next Healthy Living show when you get a chance) and if you’re close with him you can call him Lully. The other way to call him “Lully” is to follow him on his socials. @Lully514 on Instagram. The post Daniel Carin Returns – GPYS 293 appeared first on 9to5 (dot cc) .…
