This week on #TubtaNabadda, we focus on the role of the media in supporting women’s representation and participation in politics, and the fulfilment of the 30% quota in the upcoming elections in Somalia. We interview Farah Omar Nur, Secretary General of the Federation of Somali Journalists (FESOJ), about media trainings on women’s political participation and fulfilment of 30% quota in elections, UNSOM supported trainings implemented by FESOJ and Somali Women Journalists (SWJO). He also talks on journalists’ responsibilities when covering political and electoral issues and, especially, women’s involvement and participation in these processes. We also interview Shukri Ismail Ahmed, a journalist - Radio Warsan Baidoa on whether the training was beneficial to her and her colleagues. She points out her key message to other journalists in avoiding reporting anti women speeches during the election period.
