The struggle is important, it puts a lot of things in perspective and eventually, you ask yourself, 'Why am I doing this?' and if the reason why isn't big enough, you move onto the next thing"- Angelo Lamsen My guest today is a good friend of mine, Angelo Lamsen. Angelo was born in 1990 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and from an early age took interest in the arts. From being in, "Sisler's Most Wanted" urban dance group in high-school to musicals and busting out moves as a young kid during family gatherings, music and dance always interested him. In this episode, Angelo walks us through his evolution of dance and provides bits of history around his favourite genres, "Popping, Locking, Tutting' and more. We also talk about money-saving tips regarding textbooks as a student, lessons learned from failing in business, various jobs we've had over the years, and what it's like to be a professional rapper. Angelo, aka 'Joe Boy Rock' and his cousin Andrew, who also goes by, 'Cortex' partnered up in 2016 to become the rap duo known as Machina II (MA-KI-NA 2) where this past summer they had the opportunity to open up for Swollen Members during their 2018 Family Reunion tour. If you're a fan of the more old school hip-hop then you should enjoy this Winnipeg group making moves in the Canadian rap and hip-hop scene. I highly encourage listeners to check them out on Soundcloud, iTunes, Spotify, and more. Plus, check out their Facebook page for upcoming performances. Fun Fact: Winnipeg is actually home to 56,400 Filipinos (2016), making them the third-largest Filipino community in Canada by total population, however the largest by percentage (8.7%).
