Superscience Me #8 The 8th episode of Superscience Me is very special, because Julia Grillmay is hosting it together with the Philadelphia based literature scholar and musician Ross Liption. This episode is thus mostly in english, with some contributions in german. Julia will cover the basics and tell you how ‚virus‘ is defined in biology – and more recently in informatics; and give you some insights in the history of virus research. Also, she will speak about William S. Burroughs and his theories on language as virus, about the contemporary artist Linda Stupart who picks up on this idea, but uses it completly different, as well as about the installation and ongoing art project Alien Sex Club by John Walter, searching for new ways of thinking and talking about HIV. Ross will talk to Prof. William Haver who wrote a fascination book on Historicity and Sociality in the Time of Aids, called ‚Body of This Death‚. Also, he will share some thoughts on his research on contagious disease outbreaks in literature, e.g. Defoe’s Journal of a Plague year, Poe’s Masque of the Red Death,… All Music is composed by Ross Lipton and his group Tadzio. Diese Episode wird daher zweisprachig, gemixt Deutsch und English, sein. Julia wird über biologische und informatische Definitionen des Virus sprechen und einen kleinen Einblick in die Geschichte der Virus-Forschung geben. Außerdem spricht sie über William S. Burroughs und seiner Idee, die Sprache als Virus zu begreifen, die Künstlerin Linda Stupart, die diese Idee aufgreift, aber ganz anders einsetzt sowie das Kunstwerk „Alien Sex Club“ von John Walter, das es sich zur Aufgabe gemacht hat, ein neues Vokabular für das Nachdenken über HIV zu finden.
