Sequenziato il genoma del krill antartico : è 15 volte quello umano ed è il più grande di tutto il mondo animale mai sequenziato fino ad ora. Il krill antartico (Euphausia superba) è l'organismo animale più abbondante sul pianeta, con una biomassa tra i 300 e i 500 milioni di tonnellate. Studiarne la biologia, ci aiuta a comprendere le capacità di adattamento a un ambiente in continua evoluzione a causa degli effetti del riscaldamento globale. Come ci spiega Cristiano De Pittà, docente di genetica all'Università di Padova.
Il suo progetto di ricerca ha vinto il bando lanciato da Human Technopole, con il patrocinio del Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca, che prevede un finanziamento di 200.000 euro destinato a giovani scienziati per sostenere la loro attività di ricerca. Federico Rossi attualmente è ricercatore alla University College London, ma sta per tornare in Italia. Grazie al premio che ha vinto aprirà un laboratorio all'Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia di Rovereto: studierà l'organizzazione dei circuiti cerebrali che coordinano la vista con i movimenti.
