George H. W. Bush Inaugural Address - 01/20/1989
Manage episode 339210495 series 3388545
George H. W. Bush delivered his inaugural address on January 20th, 1989. Before becoming president, Bush Sr. served as Ronald Reagan's vice president. Foreign policy was a major aspect of his term – the final years of the Cold War and the reunification of Germany, the invasion of Panama and the Gulf War, and the negotiation of NAFTA (which was ratified under Clinton). However, to reduce the deficit, he had to renege on one of his promises – no new taxes. With his son, George W. Bush, the pair represent the only other father-son presidency – the other being John Adams and John Quincy Adams.
